I've read on here that yes, it definitely does and also the exact opposite.

My thought process is that if you check in the airline knows you intend to take the flight, so may upgrade you in preference to upgrading someone who may turn out to be a no-show and then have to move someone else shortly before boarding.

Truth is that no-one on here seems to know for sure.

In my experience, OLCI does not affect your chances. But as we have all agreed, it is up to the individual load controller and perhaps if you were checked in and he/she was working the flight and running down the list of potentials, if the process to offload you and then put you back onto the flight was going to take time (or does take time) and he sees someone else who isnt checked in, that may influence the outcome.

But this is all speculative. And certainly not consistent. This question is at the top of the list when we sit down with Skywards next month.

I have been upgraded a few times when i had checked in online so would not say it lessens your chances as i believe in Dubai they do the upgrades when closing the flight so was told to check at the gate when going through or at the lounge, can anyone else confirm this?

Although at the same time i have once been handed an upgraded boarding pass straight at check in Shanghai...
