Was this a normal EK experience?

I haven't been on the EK A380, but their 77W service is hardly better, based on my last experience:
1. No one answering the FA button despite repeated attempts by me for 30 mins. This was over half an hour after the Fasten Seat Belt sign was switched off after take off. You could hear and see the crew setting up the trolleys.
2. Only 1 round of drinks. Never asked for a second until the main meal service had started.
3. Never even asked for coffee etc. after the dessert.
4. Later had two cups of coffee during the flight - literally cold.

I respect your posts a lot and wouldn't disagree with you but I've never had these issues with EK service in J with drinks I ask them for my 2 or3 when they come round and they oblige... Always offered coffee, espresso, piping hot....
EK is a bad airline in many ways in terms of product inconsistency,no flatbeds in J, nothing to offer J travelling golds, crap lounge etc but I've always found the J service to be excellent and consistent. My two A380 trips, I've fed and watrered at the bar and then slept which suited me just fine so there I wouldn't know but my mainstay ---the 777 ULHs ---have always been superb

Also, I fly EK 3/4 round trips a year and the only edible food I have had from them in years has been on the 380.

This was by far the worst I have experienced in about 12 flights on this sector (between DXB-SFO). Additional notes:
1. The main entree (Indian) had an extra 1/4 cup of oil, which I had to drain out into my empty salad plate (Not crew related, I concede.)
2. Instead of coming around and setting a mattress pad on each seat, the crew just left them near our feet, still wrapped in plastic. I noticed a few people didn't even know what to do with them. (Understandable if this were your first time on EK).
IMO, the crew and catering (ex: SFO in particular) are entirely ruining the EK experience. Management doesn't seem to care though even when you write them. I don't think anyone has a grip on things.
If LH weren't so bad, I would ditch EK right now.

I think it depends on the crew to a certain extent. Just reached LGW on the 777-300 ER. It was fantastic compared to the service on the A380 last week(both F).

Not this time. I was surprised as well.

This is truly terrible. Very sad.
EK management is very arrogant and oe of the reasons my company has stopped using EK...
Ive found LH to be ok recently with refurbished FRA senator lounge and rather good food also lie flat so no discernible hard product difference.
Doing BA thursday in club world and will let you know if the improvements
in cuisine and service they are touting have indeed happened.

I find that the LH is not nearly as comfortable as the EK seat. Also, LH has at best a 0:45 minute connection (and that only 3x per week) to CCU. I have missed that connection too many times (with horrible CS at FRA afterwards) to consider LH.
That leaves EK at the moment, unless I want to take a 2nd connection at either BOM/DEL or in the US.
Let's see if Qatar starts US West Coast flights. They recently started flying to CCU.
If I were originating in NYC, it would be a no brainer to stick with AI. the DEL-JFK nonstop is one that they probably maintain at any cost. It is a good "Indian" experience with a short 3 hour layover in DEL, without clearing customs/immigration, or transferring terminals.
