Changing seats mid-flight
I have a flight from JFK to Dubai in approx 10 days.
On the website, it shows row 60 onwards to be empty. There is a good chance Im assuming that these seats will remain empty come flight time.
So I was wondering if i could just move to a row of 3 empty seats once the flight takes off? Would the flight attendants be cool with that?

I move seats sometimes, but as I prefer to fly forward rather than aft, I would not be tempted by rows 60 back, but then JFK to DXB is a long one!
Happy flight!

Happened to me twice on my India trip. Once on Jet Airways 737-800, it was quite empty, moved and me and my parents got separate rows where we could sleep for an hour. For me and my mom, we were lucky on Emirates A330 from Kolkata to Dubai, was seated on 29K (had that row to myself) and my mom was seated on 30K (had that row to herself too). Surprisingly, CCU to DXB is somewhat empty, but in mid flight we managed to get 4 seats to sleep on in different rows. Helped a lot. I'm surprised EK flies 2 planes to CCU each day, which are both A332 just like Trivandrum. And back in March 2009, when my mom flew herself on Emirates's 77L from SFO-DXB, she had 3 seats to herself and found a four seater to herself during the 15 hour flight. This is the only time this has ever happened to me, every other time, flights are near full in my observation.

Do it as quickly as you can before someone beats you. Preferably when "boarding complete" is announced. Having a whole row on such a long flight is great.
But also notify the FA as ung1 said.

Thanks for the responses!
So right now in the front of plane (row 50sh). So obviously those rows are all filled. But right before I check-in (24 hrs before flight), I change my seat to one of the empty rows. With that, I don't have to worry about beating other people to the empty seats and moving midflight.
How does that sound? BTW im traveling on the A380.

The risk in doing the above is that you'll get to keep that middle seat and end up with 3 people around you. It's certainly worth trying for an empty seat/row by choosing an aisle in one of those rear rows, but don't be surprised if it ends up full.
One hint -- choose a right-side-of-the-middle aisle seat; I had a left aisle seat and the seat next to me got filled, but the other middle was empty (one of the few seats on the plane); I assume the automated or manual choice subconsciously picked the lower letter first.

I've only flown EK on one trip SFO-DXB-BLR, but on 3 of the 4 segments the flights looked fairly empty up through OLCI, but ended up almost fully packed (the 4th, the initial SFO-DXB leg, showed full earlier and was). I don't know if a large number of people can't or don't bother making advance seat selections (I had issues with doing it online and had to call) and get assigned at the airport, but it was a lot.

Im thinking considering flight is middle of the week and in a offseason, hard to imagine it being even close to full. But we'll see.

Thankfully I was able to request the lounge staff to reassign seating so that I ended up with one of 3 empty seats on the plane beside me and someone else had to suffer having a seat neighbor.
