Thanks again.
Be careful when you're doing this. If the idea is to skip the DXB-HKG-DXB, beware that EK will still know you're not on the flight. If you check in they'll charge you after departure ticket change/ no show fee if they even let you use the DXB-GRU return.

Now let me clarify a few points:

I would suggest u try to do what khalid26 says .. EK should be allowing u to reroute by removing the Dxb-Hkg-Dxb leg.. if they don't and u miss ur Dxb - Hkg connection, then u may be in a fix if u miss the flight..

+1, so better check with EK beforehand on this..
no one wants to pay a change fee or any kind of fee on this free ticket

already verified!!

Actually I already checked this with EK. The segment GRU-DXB-GRU is more expensive than GRU-DXB-HKG-DXB-GRU by USD700. I know it sounds ridiculous but you can check for any dates on emirates site and its a fact.

No matter what I do I will have to pay so why not take the risk and see how it goes...

You may regret this. If it's $700 US more expensive now, when you're at the check in desk being refused, what happens if the cheapest available ticket is then $1,000 US or $1,500 US or more?

it seems quite funny since usually prices are funny when there are feeder flights to main hub in which case trips originating from those cities are cheaper than starting from main hub, but this case is

Not funny at all actually. Very few people are going to fly from GRU to DXB on holiday. Most people flying to DXB are flying for work, or taking the direct flight because the convenience is worth a lot. There are several one stop options to HKG and EK doesn't have a monopoly on this. I wouldn't expect $700 more, but same or only slightly cheaper.

Result

As promised here is what happened in the end.

1. Emirates confirmed that if I didn't board any segment of the itinerary, all my consecutive segments will be cancelled.

2. I asked them to let me do a stopover in the middle of the itinerary. So in my case I got a stop over in Dubai for the GRU-DXB-HKG-DXB-GRU. I took the stop over for both onward and return segments for a fee of USD 100.

3. Then after I had flown my GRU-DXB section I went to airline office in Delhi(because of which I didnt want to go HKG) and asked them to drop the HKG section. Now as I had paid USD 100 + airport taxes for DXB they somehow didnt seem to have a problem

So I was able to modify the ticket issued against options voucher by paying USD100 although it was not allowed all this while as per policy.

Thanks
