DWC

I'm really hoping this is not true that DWC expansion plans are on hold, and being redesigned.

I thought DWC was only handling +/- 1million passengers a year. Why does it need expanding?

I don't know where you get that idea from. According to the link in post 2248 above, there were 8.37M in August alone!

The idea was that it would replace DXB at some point. Gradually move the non-EK airlines over to DWC, followed by EK. So, it needed to expand to cater for up to 240m passengers per annum (I think!)

Let's not forget that QR was one airline splitting its traffic between DXB and DWC ... so loss of passengers there

DWC

https://www.meed.com/dubai-prepares-tender-al-maktoum-airport-construction-month/

Now it looks like a tender is about to take place for DWCs west terminal, and concourse 1.

Then it would surely make sense to start moving some airlines across....ideal opportunity with the runway closure next year. Otherwise it sounds like a massive white elephant.

Fascinating. They only have our iris scans for SmartGate right now, anyone know how signup is working (or do they have more biometrics than we think?)

Theres 1 new smart "tunnel" at DXB T3 J/F departures , takes 2 seconds to walk through..no barriers,no presentation of BP.Its been there since 4 days ago.As I'm registered for E gate which reads my Iris, so the tunnel does the same.Very impressive !

Only slightly worried about the level of PREVIOUSLY CAPTURED biometrics required for this... 3d map of my face comes to mind
