Question re: Dubai transfer

Hi,

I am about to book a flight LHR-PER and just need some clarification (if you can help). The first leg is a reward flight with VS that lands in DXB at 8am...I am then booking a paid leg DXB-PER with EK that is due to leave at 10.45am. Just want to check:

1. Is the connection time feasible - if not I can stay over and take a flight the next day

2. How do I transfer here (never had to change terminals and collect luggage)..is it easy to do?

Any thing else I should consider. Really appreciate any help

Cheers

I'd stay over if it were me.

Although the connection time should be OK, you never know if your flight from Heathrow is going to be on time.

If you can't check your bags all the way through, then you'll have to clear immigration and customs at DXB before heading from T1 to T3. this could easily take 90 minutes.

I'm not sure if there is a land side transfer between the terminals, so you may have to get a taxi.

Cheers,
Rick

Is this cost effective? Doing the entire thing on EK will likely cost the same or less than the same ticket originating in DXB. You might be wasting all those VS miles.

Transferring terminals is easy. Airside they are connected and it is a 10 minute walk, landside you can take the metro from one to the other.

2h45m is absolutely fine for a connection. Your bags should be checked through, so you literally have to just walk from T1-T3 transfer desk to get your new boarding passes. 20 minutes at most. Even if your bags are not checked through, 2h45m is more than enough time to clear immigration (unless you need a visa and this has not been pre-arranged - that will hold you up a bit), collect bags, go to T3 and checkin again. 90 mins in that scenario.

Thanks for the replies guys....only thing Im unsure of is how can my bags get checked all the way through with different airlines??

Im not sure what to do yet as there is a split opinion here but I'm sure I will work it out.

As for a waste of the points - yes it is only about 200 pounds extra to go EK all the way through (Econ) but I have VS points that will only go to waste by next year and I can go LHR-DXB in Upper with the points so get a bit of luxury on the way out.

VS and EK have an interline agreement, so your bags will be able to be tagged all the way through.

VS are saying because it is booked as two separate fares the luggage will have to come out and be re-checked In that case I think the wise thing is to stay over

If you show both of your tickets at check-in it shouldn't be an issue. I've never had a problem with this.

And if you do have to re-check, agree with B747 - 2H45M is *plenty* of time to check collect bags and check back in as long as you don't have to deal with visas. Key will be to take a taxi to T3...you can pay in currency other than UAE Dirhams without a problem.
