I LOVE Emirates !
Been doing a lot of travel to South America of late, KLM/ AF but had to do a very short notice trip to Bangkok. So came out on EK from Manchester, and got bumped up from J to F for the DXB to BKK sector, again. I have doen this trip maybe 3 times in the last 12 months, and got upped everytime.
The God's must be smiling down on me, and the service throughout was as always impeccable.
Got my 50,000 level miles for next year sorted too, so thats a bonus !

However.................
Got assigned my seat (2K) and got settled in. Ther was a bit of a kerfuffle over on row 1, someone's seat wouldn't recline (even though of course for taxi take off and landing it should have been upright). The ground engineers were called, took the seat apart, but to no avail. It wouldn't move.
Cue the purser, asking me if I would either swap seats into the non reclining one, or return to my original business allocation, thereby removing the upgrade !
I politely declined, and she went round asking everyone else who had been upgraded if they would move, eventually somone in less need of sleep than me agreed.
Was I right to refuse, or should I have given in and taken the broken seat ? As I see it, it's the luck of the draw if you get a seat that doesn't perform, heaven knows I have had it often enough.

Emirates is great thwn things go good, but how often does it have a little wobble ?
Time to get outside of a couple of glasses of fizzy grape juice methinks.

I agree with you tezzer, it is simply luck of the draw, but on the otherhand, if the passenger on the broken seat was a full-fare paying passenger, he should be able to change seats to a working one. How the airline selects which upgraded pax has to switch to the broken seat or return to business is another debate entirely.
Enjoy your bubbly!!!

Just bump this to contrast the "nightmare flying with Emirates thread" - kinda funny when I saw these two threads together

We got away 90 minutes late, got my dinner down me, and earlpugs in !
My sleep was broken by a kiddie in the row behind me who had hot his hand wedged into the workings of the seat and was screaming loud enough to bring the plane down. While I don't deny it was a painful or more likely frightening experience he was fine five minutes later once he had a cuddle from his mum and several bags of M&M's from the CC.
