Almost Silver..

Hello Fellow FTers,

Couple of quick questions for all:

a) I'm 9735 short of becoming a Silver on EK - So my next trip to HKG will fetch me 9000 tier miles but that would mean I'm still short 700 from making it to Silver

b) I'm pretty sure EK won't make an exception and just grant me Silver status - as I'd be short 700 TMs - I've heard of exceptions if you're 500 TMs short of becoming silver.

c) in the event that I dont make Silver - is there anyway a purchased fare Flexi-Saver or a Saver Fare can be upgraded last minute to Business ? by last minute I meant at the counter could I purchase an upgrade ?

I'd really appreciate it if you could get back to me folks as my company's already booked my tickets but I really want to make Silver with this mileage run.

Thanks so much in advance everyone ! appreciate the help !

upgrading with miles at the counter won't net you anymore tier miles, you'll still only earn what you normally would. plus if they offer to sell you a cheaper upgrade at the gate, those won't net you any more tier miles either.

what bout an arabian airpass?

mattyvr, welcome to FT.

Firstly you need to tell us where you're flying from? And there are only 2 types of fares now on EK. A Flex fare or a Saver fare.

The North America (East) YYZ - Far East (HKG) Flex fare will earn you 9500 tier miles (one-way). According to your tier mile balance, you'll only then be 250 tier miles short, which you should be able to appeal to Skywards to bump you to Silver.

The other option is to upgrade prior to departure to Business, but this will cost you a significant amount.

Are you not making a round trip? Because then you will earn 19,000 tier miles.

Provide some more detail and we can help...

Where did you get the figure of 9500 or that the op is traveling from YYZ? S/he is flying r/t to HK, earning 9000 tier miles. An upgrade at the airport is unlikely to get you any more miles - if you're really keen on it, you should call and do this from before. Flights are often full, so there's no guarantee of availability at the airport. It might be cheaper to do a HKG - BKK mr.

Because I wasn't clear where the OP was originating from, I simply calculated a RT using the NA East to Far East table (flex). My humble apologies if I was wrong.

I also should have been clearer in the fact that additional tier miles are unlikely via pre-departure upgrades (unless they completely re-issue the ticket to a J class and you pay the difference). I meant to say that the OP could do this well before. I have altered my saver fare to a flex fare (Y) before so the upgrade to J didnt cost me as many miles, but I did this well in advance of the travel date.

Response

1. All, I should have been more specific and I apologize - for not having informed you that I would be flying out of DEL into HKG and NOT YYZ.

2. Thanks to those of you who were so kind to post responses re: Arabian Airpass and HKG-BKK MR.

3. In fact, I think I just might do an MR before June 2010 - and in this way I"ll hit my Silver Status with ease.

Thanks very much for all your help !
