Sonol offer

Do you want an award ticket on El Al TLV-MXP?

Well, here's a way to do it: Fill up at Sonol. A lot. In fact, you had better fill up all the cars in your neighborhood -- a lot.

El Al just sent me this breathless promo, telling me that I can get one point for ever 400 shekels I spend filling up at Sonol or buying at a So Good shop.

A roundtrip to Italy (in Economy) costs 1170 points -- meaning that I would have to fork out 468,000 shekels on gas and So Good goodies. That translates to $124,000 in spending.

How does that compare to, say, Delta?

If you have a mailing address in the US, you can get a Delta Amex for free. This gives you 2 SkyMiles for every dollar you spend getting gas at any US gas station. The same holds true for supermarkets, pharmacies, hardware stores, the Post Office, your cell phone, or Delta tickets.

If you spend $15,000 in this way, you will get 30,000 SkyMiles -- which is exactly what Delta wants for a r/t to Milan on El Al.

In other words, with less than 1/8th the credit card use, you get the same flight.

(Every dollar spent out of the US, or in shops other than those mentioned above, gives you 1 SkyMile per dollar spent.)

Just another example of what El Al is willing to give you compared to its competition.

Sonol- ELAL raffle

As part of the promotion there is a raffle

I defy anyone to read the rules and explain it.

In my life I have never seen anything so complicated and non understanable. A raffle should be easy. Numbers in a box, a hand or a computer picking a random number and a winner. I didn't know whether to laugh or cry when I read the rules

If the point accumlulation offer is an embarassement, the raffle is a joke and a smack in the face. If you can't give something away nicely, don't do it at all.
But as ELAL says in their commercials, "HA'CHI KAROV LA'BAYIT" (The closest to home). And that is surely true, for here in Israel everyone is always looking to outsmart the other

According to my calculations, 468K NIS translates to 124K USD in spendings...

You are right. I made the mistake of converting the price of a one-way ticket into dollars and then compounded it by citing the price of a r/t ticket.

Of course, this makes the El Al offer twice as bad as I originally posted.
