Seating on LY 744 w/o First
As most seasoned LY flyers are aware, 2 (or 3?) of LY's 744's have an all-coach main deck and 24 seats of biz class on the upper deck.
My questions are regarding the main deck: in the front (nose section) rows 2 thru 8: Are there PTV's (video screens) at each seat like in the rest of the plane? Is there massive legroom at Row 2? Is there a place for a bassinet at Row 2? Is there extra room at Row 3?
Thanks very, very much.

YES
Is there massive legroom at Row 2?
YES more than 42"
Is there a place for a bassinet at Row 2?
It doesn't seem so, as closet doors are basically the wall infront.
Is there extra room at Row 3?
YES, 42" ,so i guess it's more than BA WT+!!
But as you know, Click Here is your best bet....WYSIWYG!!
Hope this helps!!

Johnny - have you been on one of those planes? or are you basing your comments on the seatmap?
Anybody actually been on one of the planes?

LatusELAL every other week Im on those planes! So yes I have flown on it.....and looking back over my itinerary for the last 6 months Ive been on the aircraft 13 times..... What I was telling you is that the seatmaps that are/were for internal use only at ELAL are exactly what you get on the 2 Class 744.....????? I can't imagine someone would painstakingly build such a seat map for fun

LY's "children" 744 24C/ ?? Y (the whole lower deck) I know Be'er sheva is configured in this way (I flew it).
as for ELAL 2010, If I were LY....
773's for CDG/LON/NYC/FRA/JNB
747 Advanced for NYC (742/744 move to cargo)
787 to replace the 767 routes + N/S to LAX, SFO, EZE.
open up more routes to india (BLR) and offer connecting service via TLV.
FIX THEIR DARN WEBSITE (I'll do it for free)
and fly on the shabbos.

I read somewhere they had plans to get ERJs for short routes like Turkey, Greece, Amman and Cyprus.
Now that they are not govt owned, they should get some A330s for the European routes and a new plane for long haul - maybe the 773ER - something that will be able to fly to NRT and LAX non-stop. Retiring the 767 and 747-200s should be priority 1.

Think about it LY001/27 usually leaving within an hour of each other and even though one's to EWR and other is to JFK just combine the two with A380 and 'bob's your uncle!'
It definitely takes less than an hour to get from EWR/JFK @ 05:00, so it's definitely viable, with this option they could even fly to either airport on alternate days, Sun-JFK, Mon-EWR etc.

Flight 001 is the flagship flight of LY and it will not be touched or changed. This is about the only flight on LY's schedule that has a constant departure time, 6 nights a week. The only thing that changes there is the plane type between the 744 and the 777.

there is definitely demand for lots of NYC-TLV flights, the current schedule shows:
EWR CO84 3:30p 772
EWR LY28 4:00p (744)
EWR CO90 772
JFK LY 2 7:30p 744
JFK LY 8 11:50p 744
JFK LY 14 3:20p 744
JFK LY 12 2:10A 744
JFK LY 22 2:40p 777
EWR LY 36 11:55p 744
(those vary by day, from 3-6 flights attributable to LY)
is TLV A380 ready?
EWR CO84 3:30p 772
EWR LY28 4:00p (744)
EWR CO90 772
JFK LY 2 7:30p 744

4 744
4 772ER
5 742 (1-3 pax 2-4 cargo)
6 767
6 757
I think LY would be a great launch customer for the 747Adv, they could probably use 6 of them.
IF, IF I were thinking on a 10 year time scale, I'd look at this:
744, 742, 767 -> cargo
74A x6 2x JFK, 1xEWR, 1.5 LAX
772ER x4 HKG, ZA, NRT, MIA
773ER x4 LON, CDG, BKK, BLR, DEL, BOM
787-8,9 replacing all 767 routes+ ORD, MIA, PEK, PVG, IAD
757 -> leisure
additional 73NG for intra-europe
EMB-190's for ultra short haul
why anyone would buy the A330 now I have no idea, the 787 will be MUCH better.
would be nice if they also introduced a 'premium economy' product with more legroom and maybe a little more width. Most of us are too cheap to splurge on C class but would pay a little extra to be a bit more comfortable. I found it somewhat amusing that on my flight on the sad 744, that there were only 6 people sitting up top.

I don't believe Terminal 3 can handle the A380 (especially with single jetways). The runway configuration should be ok.
