End of Worthwhile Downgrade Compensation

Apparently, as of tomorrow - Jan 15th - Elal will no longer be offering a same class round-trip ticket as compensation for accepting a class downgrade at check-in. From now on only a one-way ticket - in the same class as that from which you've been downgraded - will be offered.

How exactly would that work? So you get a one way ticket forcing you to purchase an ultra expensive one way ticket back?

So basically all they're giving you is a one way economy class ticket, as one would have paid for the business class to begin with.

Does LY consider a move from (paid) Economy Class Plus to Economy Class to be a downgrade?

It's not - it's the same cabin of travel. You would be due a refund though.

It is very much worthwhile to those who choose to accept it. The fact that individuals here on FT may not find it a useful offer is irrelevant. Downgrades are fungible. If LY needs one seat and it can find it in return for a thank you note, why on earth would it offer more?
