Its good that LY continues to purchase efficient and modern a/c for their short haul/European ops, even if those a/c are second hand. Now if only LY did the same for their long haul ops perhaps their margins would substantially increase (i.e replace the 763's and 744's with second hand 772's or A330s).

El Al secures $190 million in aircraft financing:
http://atwonline.com/finance-amp-dat...raft-financing

Israeli carrier El Al Airlines will receive more than $190 million in financing from the US Export-Import Bank (Ex-Im) to help support its Boeing 737-900ER acquisition.
El Al has six 737-900ERs on order.

A340

אהלן

i heard that few airlines are getting rid from their airbus a340s maybe its a good deal for elal to buy those planes

i even found few links for those planes that are in sale

http://www.controller.com/list/list....0&ETID=1&byp=1

in the airbus site planes for sale there are also a332 and range of a340 used planes but great planes for elal

http://www.airbus.com/aircraftfamili...aft-available/

the best a340 model for elal i think is the a340-500 capable of 18 hours flying not stop like sq use in sin-ewr route

http://www.controller.com/listingsde...1&pcid=1207832

i know its reality but its a nice dream anyway

Absolutely not. The A340 is a 4 engine a/c with less capacity than the 744 and hence would likely cost as much, if not more to operate. Additionally, EL AL would have to invest considerable resources in pilot/crew/maintenance training for the induction of yet another a/c type into the fleet. EL AL should not be adding fleet types.

The only 4 engine a/c EL AL should ever consider buying, going forward, is the A380 (to replace the 744's which should be turned into cargo/convertibles for cargo and wet/dry lease ops) which I am sure Airbus would love to sell to EL AL.

As far as the A330 is concerned, I firmly believe that EL AL should replace its entire 777 and 767 fleets 1 for 1 with the A330 because it would generate a substantial overall operational and fixed cost savings for the company. In fact, during the late 1990's EL AL was actually about to order the A330 instead of the 777 because the airline felt that a/c would be better suited for the company and its operations. That deal was thwarted b/c the Israeli government stepped in and forced the company to order the 777 due to political considerations.

- 4X-EAE has left the fleet
- 4X-EKI is now equipped with winglets

Just not going to happen. However, the 747-8 might be possible after a few years.

Seen that all the B763s are leased, does anybody know when their lease finishes? Liat?

I wish El Al had an Israeli made Aircraft to choose from. Perhaps down the road Israel could fund their own aircraft development programs. El Al will never utilize Airbus aircraft. It will not happen.

Upgrade options for El Al consist of Dreamliners including stretched models, stretched 777's. The 747-8i could be a possibility as well but newer 777 variants can hold a lot of passengers in a 2 engine configuration. I think the 747-8i should really be discontinued and instead stretched 777 projects are better off. I don't see the 747-8i as a huge seller even though a few carriers have made commitments.

Given that Israel is a technology powerhouse coupled with it's advanced aviation industry and the fact that it at one point developed its own fighter jet, I would not be surprised if one day Israel, in conjunction with another country or two, develops it's own commercial a/c. It would certainly be better than anything coming out of Russia today. This, however, requires visionary people with a ton of capital, in order to materialize.

Great idea.
I will offer the Yossi Vardi's group to start thinking about it.
We just need to make sure that the seats will be chosen by someone not from ELAL.

As wealthy as Mr. Vardi is due to his start up creating instant messenger technology back during the late 1990's, I doubt he has the funds alone to do this. Such an endeavor requires hundreds of billions of dollars and even the participation of several national governments as the Airbus example shows. Perhaps he can provide the seed capital to get the ball rolling. Hopefully it won't end up in a similar circumstance as the Better Place initiative.
