I remember AA used to fly SJC-NRT but can a fully loaded 777 even take off out of SJC? It's got a not particularly long runway and then at the end of it you have freeway 101. If it doesn't take off in time we'll have another AF358 on our hands in San Jose except this time people will likely die.

A fully loaded 744 is always heavy no matter where it flies from. The trick is that after 15 hours in the air, the 744 only weighs half as much as at take-off. A 744 arriving from SYD with empty tanks can land in SJC with no problems, but a 744 with full tanks cannot take off from SJC bound for TLV.

Seriously, we might as well be talking about an LY flying 787s from KUL to SJC. It is just as likely.

LY flies to BKK and BOM by flying down the length of the country, down the red sea and around the bottom of the Saudi peninsula before heading across the Indian Ocean. But when they fly to SYD they'll be serving pork since it'll have been declared kosher by the most mehadrin of authorities.
