easyJet Strikes "Temporary" Deal With Luton Airport
Low-cost UK airline easyJet has reached a temporary agreement with London's Luton Airport over a long-running row about take-off charges.
The deal, covering the next six months, will enable the two parties to continue talks about a longer-term contract.
But easyJet says it will approach "appropriate authorities" to intervene in the dispute, which dates back around two years.
The company says the delay in settling the issue will also lead it to concentrate its expansion plans at other operating bases in Amsterdam, Geneva and Liverpool.
Luton is one of easyJet's busiest hubs, with the airline responsible for about 60% of the airport's passenger numbers.
Ray Webster, chief executive, said the company had no choice but to agree to the terms of an interim charging structure.
He added: "We had tried for something better for both our customers and shareholders, but at the end of the day we had to accept the interim per-passenger charge proposed to us."
