It's the same old, bland Swedish vodka...I'd rather have some quality Polish stuff instead...

No. But grain vodkas are (as well as being harsh). Potato vodkas are very flavourful and much smoother. Try Monopolowa for example (widely available in US, Trader Joe sells it for example, and much better as well as much cheaper. And made in Austria (a legacy of the Astro-Hungarian empire of the 19th century).

The flavours in (unflavoured) vodka are very nuanced, it is a neutral spirit but you can taste the "mouthfeel" and quality is more important than with scotch or bourbon for example.

Give Zubrwka a go and, once you sober up, come back to tell me whether it was bland!

Absolut is the cheapest that is worth drinking; I have a bottle in the freezer (along with Monopolowa and Grey Goose Citron). If you like Absolut you might want to try Smirnoff Red (don't laugh, this cheap mass-market vodka won an expert blind taste test in NY against vodkas costing 5 times as much).

Neither Absolut nor Smirnoff Red are what I'd call "cheap" vodkas...Mass-market would be a more accurate description.
The real cheap ones never seem to make it to anywhere West of Slovakia (though admittedly I haven't tried Tesco Value vodka!).

For those who like sweet tea (being from the south I do) try Firefly Vodka. Mix that with water and make sure your significant other is not around because after 2 or 3 you won't know what hit you.
