Thumbs up Lebanese

I LOVE this food.
Last night, one of the very best television 'tours' of great local cuisine from around the world took us to some great Lebanese-Australian cooks' cooking up these dishes, in their homes and workplaces.

Here's the index link:
http://www21.sbs.com.au/foodsafari/i...pisode&cid=192

There is a list of ingredients on that link. Here is the list of recipes. Plus a video link for recipe video clips.

This is making me hungry!

Here's the list of dishes cooked and tried:
  • Baba Ghanouj (Eggplant Dip)
  • Baked Salmon 'Tarator' Style
  • Hoummus
  • Kafta
  • Kousa Mahshi (Stuffed Zucchini)
  • Tabbouleh

This doesn't even cover the sweets, which I learned are eaten between courses.

Please add your own experiences of finding great dishes, great feasts (aren't all Lebanese meals feasts?) and what you've cooked or will try sometime. ^

(Personally, I was amazed at the amount of yoghurt Lebanese eat, What a staple.
We have a lot of great veges brought here by Lebanese migrants and they are popular here.
I'll try to do Baba Ghanouj dip, Hoummus dip and the stuffed zucchini)

There's a chain of Lebanese restaurants (actually they are Juice bars but the Juice is nothing to write home about) called Ranoush and they do the best shawarma's in the world, I have taken so many people there and everyone has always loved them even people who detest kebabs(like myself). The best one is on Edgware Road , when you order just say "one chicken one lamb" they will know what you mean

We had an awesome chain of Lebanese resteraunts here in Detroit... La Shish. They recently closed though, rather abruptly, due in part to declining sales, and the fact that somone in the corporation had been linked to sending money to Hamas.

The food was amazing, and I grieve for it.

A new Lebanese restaurant just opened in Richmond -- Phoenician (on Broad). We went last night. Hummus, mixed grill (Kebabs), Lebanese sausage, lamb chops, meat pastry. All delicious, though the steak kebab was tougher than ideal. The server told us that the chef marinates the chicken (for the kebabs) for two days!

In Ottawa a lot of the lebanese resturants sell chicken shawarmas although shawarma is not strictly a lebanese recipe.

I grieve as well for La Shish especially now that I am traveling to DTW frequently. La Shish (as well as other Detroit Middle Eastern places are listed in this thread: http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/showthread.php?t=309188

In Chicago there are some terrific Lebanese / Middle Eastern restaurants near the intersections of Lawrence and Kedzie. Two of these restaurants (Al Khayameih Restaurant & Semiramis) are listed in this thread: http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/showthread.php?t=543436
