Back to Round Table for a moment...
The reason it is so good is that besides having a consistently decent-to-good crust, they have a huge selection of very unique toppings. A more diverse selection than I've seen in ANY pizza joint anywhere.

There's something about a slice at the shore. I'd have to say Mack's in Wildwood, NJ or Mack and Manco's in Ocean City, NJ. That, the salt air and a stroll on the boards - that's good stuff.

If it was Johns in the Village it is one of the best, my personal fave is Patsy's on 116th St and First Ave in NYC Coal Fired and Charred Bottom. Whole Pie in about 8 minutes. :D

I'll offer my comments about Pizza joints in the JFK area:

For ambience the best was The Owl off Rockaway Blvd. That was where the Lufthansa heist was planned and showcased in Goodfellas. Regrettably the place closed several years ago.

Today if you want the best you head to Gino's on Cross Bay Blvd. The cognoscenti from JFK go there and you may have to waity a while but the service is good and the staff know what they are doing. A good place to catch up on Italian calcio.

I would have absolutely agreed with you unquestionably until I ate at All Star Pizza in Marietta, Georgia.

I do not know how they do it, but the crust is so reminiscent of New York-style pizza.

Here is a review that I posted earlier in this thread.

Since then, I have taken several FlyerTalk members and family members to this place. They have asked to return.

It even passed the taste test of the most discerning pizza critic: my mother. She ate two slices!

I just picked up on your reply, Canarsie. I'm down in Marietta quite a bit. I will definitely check this place out the next time I am down there. Thanks for the tip! ^

Memphis: Memphis Pizza cafe. The more stoned the workers are, the better the pizza is.

luckily..... ;)

I'm not sure it was in the Village, but thank you for giving me a couple of new places to try the next time I'm in NYC. :D

Speaking of Pizza, the Travel Channel ran a special about a week ago regarding pizza across the US and two places in NYC that they mentioned was Lombardi's in Little Italy and Ray's on Prince Street (which is supposed to be the original). Anyone tried either of these places? I'll read back through the thread and see if anyone mentioned them. I'll be trying both of these the next time I'm there also.

Don't waste your time at either Lombardi's or Rays.

Best bet is check in before your trip for the latest and best choice near where you plan to be

At the moment, Artichoke on East 14th (btwn 1st & 2nd) is getting raves. Some folks are even going so far as to compare it to DiFara's in Midwood Brooklyn.

If you've got plenty of time, check out DiFara's or for a quicker slice try Patsy's in East Harlem . Arturo's on Houston is always another good choice.

Boy, I agree about Rays. I cant imagine they were mentioned on the travel channel. That is a bit of a joke. Lombardis is quite a bit better than Rays but still probably not on my short list. Since the thread has grown so much I will once again mention my favorite, the absolutely sublime Una Pizza Napolitano.

Yep. The show is called "Pizza Paradise" and they featured pizza from NYC, Connecticut (they mentioned both Sally's and Pepe's), California and Chicago.

That is why I was curious about the NYC choices. I mean, NYC is pretty big and has lots of pizza places. I always like to hear from the locals. :D

Here is a link to the show and the choices they highlighted:

If you're ever in the Bay Area check out a place called Frankie Johnnie and Luigi's and get the Strombolie pizza. Soooo good.
