As a Texan I get a yen for fried foods once in a while, eat some, get over the yen and go back to healthy food.

I managed to try the deep-fried artichokes at the LA County Fair a couple years ago. The biggest problem--you couldn't actually taste the artichoke! Yeah, I get that I'm covering it with goo and fat...but it would have been nice to at least have a hint of vegetable in the final product...

I've been eating way too much fried food since the San Gennaro Festival started (it's very close to home). The northernmost fried food vendor (almost at Houston) lists fried twinkies on the menu but I haven't been brave enough to order one.
There's also ChipShop (I assume it's still there) in Park Slope. English restaurant with a variety of fried candy bars on the menu.

I've tried deep-fried Oreos, Twinkies, Mars Bars, Snicker Bars, cheese, and dill pickles - slices and spears (I love deep-fried pickles!). There might be a thing or two I'm leaving out, but simply can't recall at the moment.

I have to admit, the deep-fried Twinkie I recently tried was much better than I expected. I don't especially like raw Twinkies, but the filling melts when you cook them, so instead of cold cake with too-sweet goo in the middle, you just have very moist, warm cake with a crunchy coating.
The fried Snickers or Mounds bar is also very tasty. Not unlike molten chocolate cake. I never tried the Oreo, but I'd like to.
There's a place in Chicago called Hot Doug's, and once a week they make their fries in duck fat. They're not fooling around.

I have news for you people....if you think you are being good by eating twinkies, oreo or snickers NOT fried, don't kid yourself. The frying--if it is done at a high temperature really doesn't allow the food to absorb much oil. The problem is the food isn't good for you to begin with. That being said, it's probably not something you are going to eat everyday. I don't get why everyone is so afraid of trying it---they all sound great to me.

When I came to NZ I was amazed at what they fried. Virtually everything especially if you were in the rural areas.
Fried candy bars are actually very tasty.
Unfortunately for me, the-soon-to-be-Mrs Blackcloud is on Weight Watchers so therefore no fried food for me.

I saw someone fry a Krispy Kreme doughnut in butter. It looks disgusting, but they claim its quite good.
There's a place up north that deep frys hot dogs. They call them "rippers". Not battered like a corn dog, just toss the dog into the boiling oil. Cook it until it starts to rip.
Speaking of corn dogs, I had a corn dog in Albequerque with habanero pieces in the coating. Wow.
I've also seen deep fried cheeseburgers. Make a cheeseburger, dump it in batter, and then into the oil. Just in case there wasn't enough fat and cholesterol in the original cheesburger.

I started a similar thread when the Fair announced their new foods. I put it over in Omni. I guess it seemd to me that consuming a deep fried coke didn't quite count as Dining.
