Would you like that deep fried?
http://www.latimes.com/news/printedi...,2468752.story
In Pomona, vendors are deep-frying Twinkies, Oreos and all manner of vegetables. Then there is the Krispy Kreme chicken sandwich. The hungry and the curious follow the greasy, but alluring, scent of batter frying in hot oil to Charlie Boghosian's stand at the Los Angeles County Fair in Pomona. When they arrive, the menu stops them in their tracks: deep-fried Twinkies, deep-friend Oreos, deep-fried avocados, deep-fried pickles, deep-fried olives and more. <snip> At 37, Boghosian has become one of the nation's most esteemed and creative practitioners of extreme fair food. In a world of the South Beach Diet, counting carbs and "bad cholesterol," he's part of a wave of vendors who have helped breathe new life into state and county fairs with their artery-clogging culinary oddities. At the State Fair of Texas — known for introducing the first corn dog in 1942 — a vendor who won the best taste category last year for his deep-fried peanut butter, jelly and banana sandwiches has stolen headlines again this year for inventing deep-fried Coke. Other items making the rounds include deep-fried macaroni and cheese, deep-fried spaghetti and deep-fried cosmopolitans — a pastry filled with cheesecake and topped with cranberry glaze and a lime wedge. And served on a stick. But even rival fair food investors admit that no one takes it as seriously as Boghosian, who they say seems to have frying oil in his veins........ :o |
While we were walking along Mulberry Street during the San Gennaro Festival last weekend, we saw several vendors selling "deep fried oreos". I didn't even want to see what that looked like let alone try one.

Deep-fried Coke? How does one do that I wonder.
Surprised no one mentioned deep-fried Snickers. I hear they are the bomb. Sincerely, William R. Sanders Customer Service Coordinator Starwood Preferred Services [email protected] |

If you're visiting my part of the country in early March, spend a few hours at the Hoston Livestock Show and Rodeo. They'll deep-fry just about anything for you! And yes, the deep-fried oreo's are pretty tasty :D
You can also find pretty much anything served -on-a-stick (including, f.ex. pizza) Good, heart stopping, times! |
There's a new automat on St. Mark's Place called BAMN that apparently sells macaroni and cheese croquettes, which as I understand it is deep-fried batter-coated mac and cheese. The reviews haven't been good.
I have eaten avocado tempura several times while living in Tokyo--yum. |

Here in southern WV, some places sell deep-fried subs, where they fry the roll before making it. Too much grease for me, thank you.

There is a place in downtown Vegas that serves deep fried Twinkies. With 8-9 screwdrivers running through my veins, I had the courage to want to try them. Then, I thought about the health risk and punked out.
Then I had another drink. |
