What do you like in an omelet?

I like swiss cheese and green onions. I also like grape jelly and cream cheese.

obscure2k Aug 17, 2006 1:42 pm

pseudoswede Aug 17, 2006 1:50 pm

And lots of garlic (spinach and mushrooms are great for soaking up the garlic; even better with crimini mushrooms, or failing that, portabello).

dillard8 Aug 17, 2006 1:52 pm

Lately I've been using my fresh-from-the-garden tomatoes and basil, along with a little feta cheese. Mmmm...

ghia74 Aug 17, 2006 2:29 pm

I like ham cheese peppers and onions. But the peppers and onions need to be finely chopped. Nothing turns me off to an omlette more than large peices.

silverthief2 Aug 17, 2006 4:19 pm

Cheddar, ham, and mushrooms. Any time of day. In fact, I may go make one right now. :p

ScottC Aug 17, 2006 4:32 pm

Egg......

fduvall Aug 17, 2006 4:49 pm

Denver. Or spinach, cheese, bacon and a little onion. I know what I will have for breakfast tomorrow.

Farmer's omelet

I like cheese, mushrooms, bacon, and french fries in my omelet.

BamaVol Aug 17, 2006 6:49 pm

I found a recipe on epicurious.com before I headed home for a zuchini omelet. It was excellent. Seasoned with black pepper and marjoram. I couldn't resist adding swiss cheese. Served with toasted english muffin bread and a salad.

LapLap Aug 17, 2006 7:10 pm

potatoes, onions and salt - classic Spanish tortilla

also good with wisp thin esparragus and a touch of garlic

with sugar and dashi to make a rolled omelet

And the classic chervil/chives/parsley combination is a winner

I once had a strange combination of potato and grated cooking apple with a bubbling coating of parmesan which was rather nice - enough to replicate it at home a couple of times.

Seat13F_AC_CRJ Aug 17, 2006 7:17 pm

Mushrooms, onions and cheese (cheddar or swiss).

Sweet Willie Aug 17, 2006 10:03 pm

I LOVE eggs but dislike omelets

ContinentalFan Aug 17, 2006 10:43 pm

Tomato, cheese and ham (eggs too!)

slippahs Aug 17, 2006 10:46 pm

I am plain and original: Ham and Cheese....

My mouth is practically drooling thinking about a ham & cheese omlet. :D

mosburger Aug 17, 2006 11:15 pm

Sounds like a good combination, even if I like to use all of the egg. Will try once I get to a residence with a proper kitchen again. ^

Welcome to FT, im_blue. That's quite an appetite you have. :) I would have a hard time folding an omelet with that much filling.

Welcome to FT im_blue. If you put all of that stuff in your omelet, I can only imagine what you put on your pizza

iris30 Aug 19, 2006 8:13 pm

I don't eat many omelets but I may have to save this thread and try some of these out once I get home. If I order an omelet while out, I'm pretty basic with ham, cheese and mushrooms.

drbond Aug 19, 2006 8:26 pm

It used to be: Eggs, Cheese, ham, white onions, green onions, green peppers, tabasco sauce, black pepper and a touch of garlic salt.
Now due to health: Egg whites, Cheese, white onions, green onions, green peppers, tabasco sauce, black pepper and a touch of garlic salt.

Mmmmm...sounds good to me. That's my favorite!

dnsallday Aug 23, 2006 7:55 pm

Fresh steamed baby spinach, fresh (from the garden) chopped tomatoes, chopped onions, fresh chopped basil. (sometimes I add mushrooms as well) Small amount of shredded cheddar cheese.

MileageAddict Aug 23, 2006 8:01 pm

I like all kinds of omelettes but am most fond of ...

1. grilled onions and spinach

2. lox (try grilled salmon as an alternative) and onions

Agreed this is my number ONE!

My number 2 (no pun intended) is: chorizo and jalapenos!

kipper Aug 24, 2006 7:41 am

mushrooms, onions, green peppers, cheddar cheese, tomato (occasionally).

No mention of avocado in all these posts?

I'm a fan of avocado, heirloom tomato, and nice cheese medley, maybe a little sprig of basil.

Ham, cheese and scallions as a "base" work fine. Olives - I'd prefer to avoid. The big no-go? Green bell pepper! Rest (including anchovies!) negotiable.

I like sliced avoacdo with burgers/sandwiches, and I like guacamole (usually) but ... avocado in omlettes?

I was just about to say!

I like scrambles more than omelets, but close enough:

-3 eggs
-Avocado, cubed.
-Ham, cubed.
-Onions, julienned.
-A little bacon, crumbled.
-Mushrooms, sliced (....ake are best)
-Gruyere, shredded on top.
-White pepper, freshly ground.
-Dollup of sour cream.

Cook it in a little butter and olive oil. Oh yes... oh yes.

obscure2k Aug 25, 2006 12:16 am

:td: to warm avocados. Okay to a freshly sliced avocado on the side. Oh, and please hold all cilantro.
