The location near me (and a major university) is almost always packed. I didn't stop going because of the scare, and from what I could tell of the crowds there, not many others did either. 15 - 20 minute long lines are not uncommon, and I give up if looks like it will be over 30 minutes.

It requires eating there twelve times/month for three months. Only one purchase/day counts, so you would need to coordinate if you shared.

Not four ... 11 times per month for three months.

I like Chipotle, and the e.coli thing never scared me away, but there is no way I'd eat there 11 times in one month. Mrs. Swede and I usually get it 2-3 times per month.

Last night I saw a sorority had set up 3 cards with a calendar and different colored markers to indicate when someone used each card. They plan to maxout at least one of the cards and have a party, when someone redeems an entrée they're supposed to put $5 in a box for party drinks.

29 free burritos for paying for 25 others is a pretty good discount, though the terms are unfriendly.

Your digital or physical Chiptopia card, the associated Chiptopia account and any accumulated Rewards are personal to you and may not be sold, transferred or assigned to, or shared with, family, friends or others, or used by you for any commercial purpose. You may have only one Chiptopia account.

ILuvParis Jul 7, 2016 4:36 pm

All of which reminds me I'd better to to Chipotle tomorrow or I'll have to go twice next week! :D

The salad I had last week was the best I've ever had. The steak was tender and instead of the usual roasted green peppers and onions, they had red peppers.

CMK10 Jul 7, 2016 9:07 pm

I went today to get my first burrito in a couple months and try out the new rewards app. I showed my phone with the QR code on it and the cashier was confused about what to do. A supervisor had to scan it but in the end I got the free chips and guac and the receipt shows my first purchase on my new rewards account ^

IceTrojan Jul 7, 2016 11:14 pm

I may go in for my first burrito + free guac, but I think that's it. I haven't been to Chipotle in months, and not because of the scare, just because I haven't had the occasion.

Now if In-n-Out started a rewards card, that would be something.

Not really, it is going back to the roots of it's first major investor:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chipotle_Mexican_Grill

Founded by Steve Ells in July 1993, Chipotle had 16 restaurants (all in Colorado) when McDonald's Corporation became a major investor in 1998. By the time McDonald's fully divested itself from Chipotle in 2006, the chain had grown to over 500 locations.
When I mean the roots of McDonald's, the days before Ray Kroc bought the franchising rights from the McDonald brothers in California when all they served was burgers, fries, and milkshakes using multi-mixers. Kroc was a multi-mixer salesman at the time.

ILuvParis Jul 31, 2016 7:52 am

I gave up after week two. As much as I like it, no way I can eat it more than once every 10 days or so. If I did, I'd be so sick of it that I wouldn't want to collect. :D

I had a chorizo burrito on Monday. Adding ground chicken to it made for a much lighter flavor--and definitely not greasy. Not bad.

Nice. I did half chorizo and half carnitas salad, pretty solid.

I had a chorizo burrito myself, no chicken though, and I was actually very impressed with it. I'm planning on another tonight in fact ^

I suspect that the other poster was referencing Chipotle's decision to add more ground chicken to their mixture than just going with pork alone as a common complaint with that is the grease levels. Although perhaps Chipotle is missing an opportunity to add ground chicken to their menu for those wanting that type of consistency. I know sometimes their chicken can be a bit rubbery.

The awesome goodness of a Double-Double (with grilled onions) is its own reward.

Got the bogo promotion last week, It seems like the line is as long as prior the fiasco.

pseudoswede Apr 3, 2017 10:52 am

I/we don't go to Chipotle that often, but the half chorizo/half chicken burrito is now my go-to choice. So yummy. I suppose cutting back on red meat (since I only got steak) is always a good thing.

Malware on Chipolote's POS may have stolen your Credit Card Information

Many of Chipotle's Point-of-Sale (POS) devices had malware on them between March 24, 2017 and April 18, 2017. The malware searched for track data (which sometimes has cardholder name in addition to card number, expiration date, and internal verification code) read from the magnetic stripe of a payment card as it was being routed through the POS device.

You can read more about it here and also check to see if the Chipotle(s) you visited were affected:

The one by my house is apparently one of the ones affected. Fortunately I last visited just before the hack happened, so no issues on my end. ^

Fun fact: they came out a couple of years ago and said that they'll never adopt the chip. I wonder if that'll change now and whether that previous statement will bite them later in the inevitable lawsuit.

I used a cc at one of the restaurants during the time in question. Thankfully, no unauthorized charges, at least not yet. I'm pretty vigilant generally, but I wonder if anyone knows how long it would take before the thieves would do their dirty work.

Other restaurant chains have been hit with the malware, according to this report:

A sophisticated hacking group with suspected ties to cybercrime gangs operating in Eastern Europe is now actively targeting and breaching prominent brand-name restaurants in the U.S.

A recently disclosed data breach suffered by the Chipotle chain was carried out by hackers linked to a group known as FIN7 or Carbanak Group, CyberScoop has learned. In addition to Chipotle, the hackers appears to be targeting national restaurant franchises Baja Fresh and Ruby Tuesday, according to malware samples and other evidence CyberScoop obtained.

More than 20 U.S.-based hospitality companies — the sector that includes hotels and restaurants — have been successfully hacked by FIN7 since the summer of 2016, two cybersecurity researchers told CyberScoop on the condition of anonymity in order to speak freely regarding ongoing investigations.

Interesting. My debit card was compromised last week. Which was odd because when I called in and was dealing with it I asked last time it was swiped and/or used. Over 2 years ago...

So not sure what exactly happened. Not used at Chipotle though :)

It's an outbreak? One store?

Nice to get a coupon though.

Sorry. It was more tongue-in-cheek -- and certainly bad timing.

Also did it on my kids' phones, so now we have two family dinners for the price of one. :)

It's not worth it to me since I stopped patronizing my local Chipotle after they served me cold burritos five or six times in a row (I'm a slow learner).

I was going to tell them they needed to install a microwave, but then I realized the foil wrapping would probably catch fire in it.

How did this happen? Or what do you think happened?

I go to Chipotle a lot. They warm the shell and then install ingredients. Only the final few items are 'cold'. How was the whole burrito cold?

If my burrito was cold a couple of times, I'd complain to the health department because it probably means the hot food isn't being kept hot enough. It's dangerous.

Yes... and if I got a completely cold burrito that was JUST made 2min ago I'd go complain instantly. Just not sure how a 'cold' burrito exist. Like the entire thing. I get guacamole on every single burrito and when you get a bite of a lot of it it's cold. The entire burrito isn't.

I'm also a long-time fan -- before they came to Atlanta, I would always stop for lunch at one right after landing in DEN!

There are several ways this particular Chipotle consistently manages to serve me cold burritos. I've gotten cold food after the first person on the line put the meat, beans and rice on the shell, but then the burrito sat on the counter for several minutes before the lineworker on the the cold stuff was able to get to it. This happens when the customer in front of me starts being a topping prima donna as well as when the line worker is too busy working on a complicated online order. (Another burrito place I used to patronize would always fold the burrito closed before passing it to the second line worker. Chipotle doesn't bother to do this.)

On another visit, the burrito was completely made and wrapped, but then it took four minutes (I timed it) before the manager could be bothered to come from out back and unlock the cash register. I was starting to think I was part of a psychology experiment, how long will customers watch their burrito get cold before walking out?

Another time, the burrito making went very quickly, but it was cold when I started to eat it-- apparently the meat and beans had only been luke warm. I can't stand lines, so I only go to this particular location at off-peak times.

The particular location has really bad online reviews (Yelp, etc), so it's not just me. The positive online reviews are also telling -- they talk about how great is to be able to walk there at lunchtime, instead of having to drive.

The other Chipotle locations around Atlanta seem to be fine; it's just that the one closest to my home is awful.

NBC DFW: Rodents Fall From Ceiling of Dallas Chipotle

Meanwhile at the Chipotle on North Market Street in the West End of Dallas:

Some diners at a Dallas Chipotle Mexican Grill restaurant said their lunch was ruined by rodents falling from the ceiling on Tuesday.

Patrons captured cellphone video inside the Chipotle restaurant on North Market Street in the West End area, showing rodents crawling around the floor and one climbing up the wall. Customers claimed the rodents fell from the ceiling.

Denver and Los Angeles are the new test markets for Chioptle's new queso. Because of that, they have removed chorizo and soft corn taco tortillas from the menu. I was pretty bummed. I'm not much of a queso fan to start out with.
