How do you Chipotle?

Bowl - Brown rice, chicken, fajita vegetables, black beans, pico, hot salsa, lettuce

I think most of us would agree that Chipotle isn't authentic Mexican at all (and if a visiting friend says they want Mexican, I definitely don't take them there). But for a quick, decent, consistent meal on the go, Chipotle wins the fast-casual and fast-food category.

.

My strategy as well.

I'm born and raised in Mexico City. After learning this, sometimes people ask if I like chipotle. My answer "I love it but that's nowhere close to Mexican food".

IAD_flyer Oct 31, 2015 7:15 pm

My normal order is:
Burrito Bowl
Tortilla on the side
Fajita Veggies
Brown Rice
Black Beans
Pinto Beans
Carnitas
Corn Salsa plus on the side
Pico de Gallo
Hot Sauce
Sour Cream plus on the side
Cheese

IceTrojan Oct 31, 2015 7:34 pm

And... there's troubled waters up ahead. Chipotle stores in OR and WA closed until further notice because of an E. Coli outbreak.

Bowl: White rice, black beans, fajita vegetables, chicken, pico de gallo, hot sauce (plus on the side), cheese, chips

Millertime Oct 31, 2015 9:34 pm

Bowl

Brown rice
Fajita
Chicken
Medium salsa
Cheese
Lettuce

If eating at home I put plain Greek yogurt to replicate a healthy sour cream.

Ditto as well. My usual routine:

"A bowl. For here. (pause) White, black, fajita, chicken. (pause) Pico and corn. (pause) No thanks, just a bunch of lettuce on top."

That is to say, a bowl with white rice, black beans (sometimes), fajita vegetables, and chicken. The mild salsa and the corn, and then quite a bit of lettuce on top.

Although I had to skip my usual Saturday lunch today - a little E. coli mishap, it seems... Chipotles close in Ore., Wash., after 22 sick from E. coli

kipper Nov 1, 2015 4:55 am

I don't. I've never been to a Chipotle.

onlysilver Nov 1, 2015 7:30 am

Chipotle is good, but has anyone had Freebirds?? I personally think it's a bit better. They are only located in a few states, but a definite must try if you like burritos or burrito bowls!

Eastbay1K Nov 1, 2015 10:26 am

I Chipotle by going to the the little locally-owned place directly across the street.

JoshPA Nov 1, 2015 10:59 am

Bowl, brown, black, chicken, veggies, cheese. Try to resist chips and fail.

krazykanuck Nov 1, 2015 12:06 pm

I rarely get chipotle if I'm home in Houston since there are just so many other places to get burritos from. It's usually, i'm in some random place and don't have time to figure out somewhere better/more unique.

I like the bowl, black beans, carnitas, spicy salsa, lettuce, corn, cheese, and veggies.

Last time I went to Chipotle was a few months ago on a day where if you bought the new tofu burrito, bring your receipt back for a free burrito a week later. When I went around dinner time, they had run out of tofu but honored the deal anyway so I got two meat burritos for the price of 1.

A local chain named Uberrito (used to be called Mission Burrito, which was a way better name) is really solid. Way better than Chipotle/Freebirds and same price, maybe a bit less.

kokonutz Nov 4, 2015 9:34 pm

So THAT's why my Chipotle was empty today!

I walked into my regular Chipotle today.

Typically the line is pretty long and it takes me 10-15 minutes to get my salad.

Today there were like 4 people in the joint and I walked in and out in like 3 minutes.

Later I saw this: http://www.nbcnews.com/health/health...ington-n457611

I love me a good Chipotle panic!

TrojanHorse Nov 5, 2015 5:12 am

I walked by the one in the Reston Town Center last night at 6:45 p.m. and ZERO people in Line; I've never ever seen that and I hit this place maybe once a week

pseudoswede Nov 5, 2015 8:11 am

I went yesterday to pick up lunch for Mrs. Swede and I. I walked straight up to order. Maybe a bit of luck because 10 people had lined up behind me by the time I was finished.

Haha, misinterpretation of "Washington" perhaps? :D

ysolde Nov 5, 2015 9:16 am

I haven't been to Chipotle in years. Now I have a craving. Thanks a lot, Obama . . . err, I mean, FT!

IceTrojan Nov 5, 2015 12:19 pm

Ooh... I need me a good E. coli-induced-panic burrito bowl...

scubadiver Nov 6, 2015 9:38 am

I stopped eating Chipotle when they jumped on the anti-science GMO-free bandwagon. So I was spared the E.coli.

CMK10 Nov 10, 2015 11:29 am

I went Saturday evening in Durham and the line was only 3 people, this location is right next to Duke University and usually the line is two dozen long even at odd hours.

On another note: does anyone else like to do half meats? I do half chicken and half steak because you get more meat than you would if you asked for just steak and you only get charged for one meat, instead of extra like if you asked for double steak.

CMK10 Nov 10, 2015 11:30 am

Burrito
- Half Chicken
- Half Steak
- Hot Sauce
- Sour Cream
- Corn
- Lettuce
- Cheese

Side of chips

CDTraveler Nov 10, 2015 11:33 am

We went to Chipotle Saturday night. Normally the line would be out the door and around the building. There were 3 people ahead of us.

Still trying to figure why people in Pennsylvania are avoiding a place that has some trouble 3,000 miles away...

I don't get this either. FWIW, all the Central Florida locations I've visited seem to be pretty much normal. With locally sourced ingredients, once can be assured nothing from Oregon is going to make it down here. :D

I had never heard of Freebirds before this thread, but was in the Dallas area last week and one happened to be right across the street from my hotel. They seemed to have more variety of salsas and sauces, although they don't offer brown rice. It's also handy that they offer their burritos and bowls in three different sizes vs. just one for Chipotle.

I liked Freebirds a little better than Chipotle, my wife gave the nod to Chipotle. I could see where the comparison could easily change depending on the options chosen and how you dress it up, we've had years to fine tune our Chipotle orders.

Madone59 Nov 10, 2015 1:33 pm

Burrito with plane white race, peppers & onions, chicken and cheese for me every time. Come to think about it, I need lunch.

IceTrojan Nov 10, 2015 3:44 pm

11:30am today in Orange County, line was 15 deep and growing.

Some populations are more skittish than others, I guess.

NYCFlyGirl Nov 11, 2015 8:03 pm

I don't often go to Chipotle, but when I do, I get a single soft taco with:
- either carnitas or barbacoa
- pinto beans
- pico de gallo
- lettuce
- sour cream
- tomatillo salsa on the side

ragerforever Nov 11, 2015 8:48 pm

Burrito (double wrapped)
Chicken
white & brown rice
Pinto
Pico
lettuce

jfe Nov 16, 2015 8:46 am

This is what I think of Chipotle now

Little cheese
Little lettuce

I've now gone to a "just a little black beans" and "just a little fajita veggies".

Sometimes they put too much of the beans in, which overwhelms the meal. I also wish they could do just the fajita onions, and I'm not cruel enough to ask them to pick out the bell peppers.

javabytes Nov 16, 2015 2:17 pm

Bowl.
White rice.
Half chicken, half steak... unless the steak appears dried out, then chicken only... or unless the steak looks particularly fresh and tender, then chicken + steak double meat.
Next the cheese... this is out of the usual order, but I prefer the cheese gets put over the hot meat and rice so it melts a little, rather than on top of cold vegetables.
Mild salsa
Corn
Guac
Lettuce

Haha. I actually dislike the onions. Maybe you and I need to go to Chipotle together. :D

EmptyKim Nov 17, 2015 5:25 pm

Salad
- little bit of white rice
- fajita veggies
- double barbacoa
- hot salsa
- mild salsa
- little bit of cheese
- guac

LOTS of Chipotle Tabasco! Little bit of lemon juice.

scottpenderson Nov 17, 2015 7:25 pm

Never ordered the bowl before, though after reading through the posts, may need to give it a try.

Burrito
Brown rice
Black beans
Chicken
Hot salsa
Guacamole
Lettuce

ILuvParis Nov 17, 2015 10:24 pm

So, I was getting my usual - a salad - today and the guy in front of me ordered bowl. He got a ton of meat. Do you get more stuff with a bowl? Or was he just cute? :D

That's the trick (ordering a bowl, not being cute, though that may help out too). When I order my bowl with tortilla on the side, I sometimes put half my bowl into the tortilla to make my own full-sized burrito, leaving a whole other half bowl to take home with me. Also, ordering 1/2 meat + 1/2 other meat typically results in 125-133% of normal meat amount.

I haven't been one since their GMO campaign. I'm afraid the deceitfulness would leave a bad taste.
