IIRC they had a really abysmal health inspection rating for a while--if that's improved, it's worth a trip. Went there the morning of my brother's wedding and all of us groomsmen had the chocolate pancakes...it's a wonder we didn't doze off during the ceremony.

Went there today for brunch--the wait wasn't too bad. As it happened, it rained on us after we finished eating; it has rained both times I've ever been to Manhattan Beach on the weekend. As we have had hardly any rain in LA for about a year, maybe I should go more often.

Pannekoeken Restaurant in Rochester, MN.
Not only are the pancakes delicious, but the servers skip and sing " Pannekoeken" every time they bring an order. Sweet.

Great thread idea...but I can't think of any in the Northern Virginia area! I want to say the Barnside Diner on Little River Tnpk, they are pretty decent. Can any NOVA people possibly suggest anything else?

I did not read through the entire thread so if this was already mentioned, I apologize, but,

I just saw a re-run of "VEGAS" or whatever the show is called, and the boss casino (James Caan) invited his cousin to the best pancake house in Vegas for breakfast. Let's just say the pancakes were not..........

I just wonder if that's true???

I guess you must have missed the link to the ORIGINAL PANCAKE HOUSE suggested SEVERAL times earlier in this thread. Their recipes contain only the very finest of ingredients, such as 93 score butter, pure 36% whipping cream, fresh grade AA eggs, hard wheat unbleached flour, and their own recipe sourdough starter. Their batters and sauces are made fresh in each restaurant’s kitchen.

The Northern Virginia location is at:

370 West Broad St.
Falls Church, Virginia 22046-3319
703-891-0148

There are also locations in the Washington, DC area in Bethesda, MD and Rockville, MD. All are consistently excellent. Have NEVER EVER had a bad meal at any of their locations. Try the 49'er Flap Jacks!

Does anyone know where to get great pancakes in mundane states like Virginia, Pennsylvania or Maryland?:

The OPH locations I visited most recently (Bethesda, MD & Edina, MN) both accept credit cards. The only one I have been to that did not was in Chicago.
