I think a good bit of the problem was on Subway in particular. They must have cut the hole in the squeeze bottles too big.

Well if it is a calorie issue, I wouldn't worry about mustard. It has almost no calories (less than 20). Mayo on the other hand ...

I had a 12 inch turkey sub on wheat today at Subway. Was fine. Not great, but fine. 900 calories for lunch (and I skipped breakfast) so I'm good with it. Surprised at the sodium content when I looked it up. I'm assuming most of that comes from the bread.

The issue is one of flavor. A half cup of mustard on a 6" sub pretty much means that's all you'll taste.

It's probably the lunch meat actually. Processed lunch meat is extremely high in sodium, which is why it's usually recommended people with high blood pressure should avoid it.

Remember the $5 footlong specials they always used to advertise? They apparently became $6 footlongs sometime recently. I'm not sure they're worth the extra $1, to be honest.

These days I'll go to Which Wich or Jersey Mike's before going to Subway. I tried Firehouse a few times and felt that the portion sizes were too small for what they charge--and their BBQ brisket sandwich tasted a bit weird to me, too. The cranberry turkey one is the only one so far that I've found acceptable there.

Quiznos also used to be on the list but the ones closest to my work all closed. Probably for the best since the absolute closest one to work was one that wouldn't accept any corporate coupons for some reason. Ironically it became a Which Wich a short time after it closed.

It's been $6 for quite a while.

Shows how often I go (or rather, not go). :p

I used to go pretty regularly a few jobs ago, as it was one of the few nearby options. Now, it's a rare stop.

I don't go that often maybe once a month or so since there is one by my job.

Although that calculator just ruined it for me. I mean I knew I wasn't ordering anything that healthy but the numbers are scary enough that I will have to change up my regular order.

Footlong Italian Herbs & Cheese
Italian BMT with Provolone Cheese
Black Olives, Lettuce, Tomato, Onion
Oil & Vinegar and Light Mayo

Rings up at 1180 Calories and 67 grams of fat. Seriously better off eating a big mac at that point.

Yikes!

I'm guessing the Big Mac won't leave you feeling as full. But neither would be considered a healthy choice.

Yeah I mean I knew that sandwich wasn't going to win me any awards for being the worlds healthiest guy but I didn't realize you could junk up a sandwich that bad there.

I don't understand how people eat Subway.

It's way too expensive for what you get (you can easily go 5 to 6 euros here for a sub that for me hardly constitutes an entire lunch) , all of them taste the same and the smell when you even pass one of the stores is just awful.

I would much rather go to a bakery and get an actual sandwhich (i.e. not american or processed food) at even a lower price (or at worst an equal price to a subway).

Always get chicken teriyaki with cheese, carrot, lettuce and no sauce.

Carrot? That's something I've never seen at Subway in the US or even Europe. This probably something Australia only.

Subway is usually consistent, and at least around me, inexpensive compared to most restaurants where I'd get a sub. The alternative that is at a lower price is a prepackaged, non-customizable sub.

Somewhat spurred on by this thread I tried one for lunch today for the first time in about 5 years. I'm no food snob; I'm as likely as the next guy to succumb to my baser food instincts, but I can genuinely say that it was one of the worst things I've consumed in some time. The jam I had on my toast this morning was less sweet than the gloop the meatballs were languishing in.

The cookie was quite acceptable.
