top three
1. LeBernardin
2. L20 in Chicago. Been there three times so far and it could catch up to LeBerardin. I like the $110 four course meal instead of the tasting menu here. It is always a battle whether to go here or Alinea so I just take turns 3. Michael Mina (Aqua in the old days) in SF or Vegas. |
Giorgio's in Fort Lauderdale
Technically this is not a seafood restaurant, its Italian but serves darn good seafood. I was surprised how well this little restaurant/caterer preppares its food. I was here 2 nights ago for the first time with 8 others in the party. Now I find a place to return to right in downtown 17th Street, Fort Lauderdale.

Awesome, Mosberger. Very very very belated thanks for starting this thread.
My favorites seafood. 1. Mitch's sushi in HNL 2. Le Bernardin NYC 3. Night market restaurants in Kowloon, Hong Kong. |
This thread started in 2005 and the changing responses are intereresting.

my votes (not in order)
SEA - Ray's Boathouse MSY - Felix's (crawfish in season) unlike Acme, they only have them in season as they don't import MCO - it's a divey, hole-in-the-wall FL oyster bar (mildly steamed) - MIA - Joe's Stone Crab (was better in the early 80's when the only reason to go to South Beach was Joe's) AMS - fresh catch Matjes Herring in season (late May/June) - if you're in NY in June, KLM flies it into the Oyster Bar @ Grand Central for a few weeks BCN - La Boqueria (both Bar Pinotxa and El Quim are great) Paris - Le Dome for shellfish; Goumard - langoustine & great bouillabaise NYC - Balthazar for the plat de fruit de mer (best in States from my perspective) - snapper baked in salt with green beans and potatoes/beurre blanc (for two) Noank, CT - Abbot's Lobster in the rough - BYOB - eat at the dock - only open June - early Sep my biases probably show - I like dives and as fresh as possible when it comes to fish. |
We had horrible experiences at Felix's. The food was tasteless,
inexpertly prepared, and not very fresh. |
What's that place in SFO as soon as you go through the main security gates in the United terminal? Best fish tacos I've had!

Found it! Yankee Pier near gate 72.

Well, not really a sea food restaurant, but Ambrosie in Paris produced the best three prawns I've ever eaten. When I asked how, all I was told that it was prawn fried in olive oil, that's it.
Devine. (About 90 euros.) |
McD's fish sandwich hits the spot once in awhile.

I would have to agree with the above poster about the Oceanaire. Very good fish! I've been to the Seattle location and the one in Dallas. Both were excellent.

Sadly the Seattle location closed up shop in the recession. In Seattle one now turns to Elliott's Oyster House (much more than oysters) or Ray's Boathouse, both very good.

My interesting response:
Chez Michel in Marseilles for bouillabaisse. It is imperative to order what the chef recommends (always bouillabaisse, I suspect) rather than off the menu. |
In Boston, most restaurants have several fish selections. Many people like traditional seafood restaurants like Legal Seafoods, and, while I find their fish fresh, the preparation is uninspired. Neptune Oyster in the North End, B&G Oyster in the South End, and East Coast Grill in Cambridge have great raw bars. Neptune Oyster also has a killer Lobster Roll.
Giacomo's has great Italian seafood preparations, and East Ocean City in Chinatown has Cantonese seafood dishes. In the summer, the Clam Box in Ipswich and Woodman's in Essex are traditional clam shacks with fresh and delicious seafood. On the Cape, we like the Lobster Pot in Provincetown; the Wicked Oyster, Moby Dick's and Mac's in Wellfleet; and Nauset Beach Club in Orleans. |
