Yu in the Intercontinental Hotel in Hong Kong (the former Regent) has excellent seafood, thanks to having invested millions of dollars in a huge aquarium and fish farm system -- keeping the fish healthy in the restaurant. Until you place your order, that is. Maybe the best variety of fish, in the best condition, of any restaurant in the world. Also some of the highest prices if you pick the more exotic fish (easy to spend thousands of dollars per person here, though a great dinner can be had for under USD 100).

I also had some very good seafood meals on Lamma Island and in Sai Kung. I also had some wonderful lunches in "Die Strandkombuis" about 100km north of Cape Town. A very relaxed beach bbq with a great selection of fresh seafood. Ultimatly the best lobster is to be had by pulling them out of the sea yourself, butterflying them and sticking them on some hot coals on the beach. Add lime-juice and you are in heaven. |
Le Bernardin wonderful!

I would recommend Aqua, both in San Francisco and Las Vegas.

(Of course, finishing off the meal with chocolate souffle didn't exactly leave me with a bad impression either.)
I'm now anxious to try Roy's in Chicago. |

At least for the United States, I'll nominate Oceanaire Seafood in Seattle. I've also eaten at their Minneapolis and San Diego properties and they were first rate. However the Seattle location clearly stands out as the best seafood I've had in the U.S.

In Hong Kong, I had really fresh seafood in Sai Gong area. I forgot the name of the restaurant, but it doesn't matter because we picked the fish from the fish market. Then gave it to the restaurant to cook it for us. Highly recommended way to do seafood.

No Signboard, Geylang branch ...
Well, perhaps not the best seafood in the world (although it was very, very good), but surely the best company in the world. |
There's room in this thread for info on a place that will serve up a decent meal at a cost of less than $15! if you want a damned good whole fresh Red Snapper fried up crispy in olive oil, Cuban style, with loads of hot, thin French Fries and sweet, slightly caramelized plaintains on the side, head for this wonderful neighborhood restaurant...
Islas Canarias 285 NW 27th Ave. Miami, FL 33125 305-649-0440 Locals fill almost every seat in this small place during lunch and dinner, so you may have to wait to be seated but it's worth it for the food and price! I took my 17 year old daughter to eat here a couple days ago... Of course, I had the Snapper, and she was content with a "Media Noche" pressed Cuban sandwich. I think our entire bill, including a 20% tip, was $16! |
Mama's Fish House, Maui- great fish and the scenery is breathtaking.
Osyter Bar (eat downstairs with the locals) and Ed's Seafood (both on the causeway) in Mobile, AL. These are both very good; it's hard to go wrong in Mobile. |
