I am surprised that no one has mentioned the Tadish Grill
in downtown San Francisco. Maybe not a best seafood restaurant, but certainly worth a visit. Always a line up to get in, more varieties of fresh fish than most places, cooked any way you want, inexpensive wine (in tumblers). Is it still open? |
Yes, the oysters on the half shell are (were?) great at Felix's, but
everything else was just wretched, and the hostess there was a BOW. Much preferred Acme down the street for all things cooked. |
Roy's!!

It had been marinated for 48 hours in a soy/miso/ginger mix. Just amazing flavor. Light and flaky, like grouper. (Of course, finishing off the meal with chocolate souffle didn't exactly leave me with a bad impression either.)
I'm now anxious to try Roy's in Chicago. Roy's is also one of my favorite restaurants. I have never been to the one in Kauai but I have been to the ones in Chicago, Atlanta, Scottsdale, and Wailea, Maui. I would have to say the one in Wailea had the best food out of the four. In terms of the restaurant itself (decor, building..), Atlanta location tops the list. Chicago is still great but does not compare to the others. |

Their sourdough bread is the best (imho) in SF. It caters to the lunch crowd in the financial district and I believe they close at 8:00PM. The waiters at Tadich are the best. They all look like surgeons.

Here in DC the best fish is probably Kinkead's but that would never rank on any 'best of' lists outside of town. :( As for the mentions of Roy's, I only tried the one at the Westin in Seattle (Sep '04) and it was really quite bad. Perhaps that explains why it closed! @:-) |
Flying Fish
What about the Flying Fish in Orlando? It's located at the Disney Boardwalk. I try to get by there anytime we have a tradeshow down there. Absolutely the best Tuna I've ever had (soy, ginger and garlic - quick seared and served very rare). Good rock fish too. Always a fresh ceasar salad and good choice of app's. Nice wine list, excellent service from friendly and knowledgable staff.
There's another "Flying Fish" in Seattle but they evidently are not related. Food there was very good too though. |
Mmm Arthur Treacher's!
The fisherman's terminal in Magnolia outside of Seattle. Great to get in, grab your crab and Scallops. Fun to drag friends to the Crab Pot, Bibs all around! |
