There is a french bistro that is outstanding. I haven't been in a few years but had 5 or 6 fabulous meals there in 1997-2001. It's a small place with a reasonably priced prix-fixe menu. See the review below:
La Boheme Dolores & 7th, 624-7500. Carmel - Open nightly at 5:30pm. V, MC For over twenty years, the cozy French country atmosphere and prix-fixe menu (three courses that change daily) have earned La Boheme the enviable reputation of a first class restaurant offering consistently high quality food at attractive prices. Each meal begins with salad garnie, followed by a special soup and the evening's entree. Luscious desserts, espresso and cappuccino are also offered. California and French wine selections feature half bottles and vintageBordeaux.

My other suggestion would be Casanova. During the same time period I dined there a few times and it was also fabulous. It would have suggested it yesterday but could not think of the name. Check out their website:

Like Good Seafood?
A more moderately priced, but very good seafood restaurant in Pacific Grove is the Fishwife. If you've already got your dinners set-up, try them for lunch. They are at Sunset Beach in Pacific Grove, across the road from Asilomar.
Enjoy!

Casanovas is a great choice. Two other suggestions. Roy's at Pebble Beach. I believe that this is the best of all their restaurants. Another great choice is Cafe Napoli on Ocean Avenue. Very small place, often crowded. Great food.
