live in pittsburgh, we have lots of places stiving to be barbecue,
but most don't wanna do the work. They want to turn the gas on and
cook, but with barbecue it just doesn't work that way to be good

Best BBQ In the U.S.

Going off of the other "Best..." threads, I thought I would start a clone about one of my favorite foods, BBQ.

I have to go with Louie Mueller BBQ in Taylor, TX, right outside of Austin (map)

They have most of the BBQ favorites, but I usually stick with the brisket and sides. They give you a "taster" while you wait at the counter. It is the juiciest, most perfectly cooked brisket I have ever had. They give you BBQ sauce, but it isn't needed.

If you go on Saturday make sure you get there before 2pm or they will be sold out and about to close.

It's a great place if you're in the Austin area, if you're in Houston it could be a day trip.

So where are your favorite places for BBQ?

I thought you were talking about BBQ -- what's the mention of "brisket" all about? Everyone knows BBQ is composed of pork.

But the best BBQ in the US is in Lexington, NC. End of story. Most BBQ per capita of any place in the world.

I would love to find a good barbecue place on my next Us trip - preferably in the NC style, even if it is elsewhere. ^

Well I can give you the one we do some of our FFOCUS do's at as well as some of us in the CLT area eat there every month or so. It is maybe 45min driving time from Clt airport going north of I77 at exit 49B. Name of the place is
Carolina Bar-B-Q
213 Salisbury Rd
Statesville,NC
Phone 704 873-5585
I don't know how to post links but if you Google this you can find it. Perhaps next time when we get together I'll post in Community Buzz in case anyone is in the area & would like to join. By the way last time SS255 flew all the way from LAX to join us & she wasn't dissappointed.

As one of the group who goes to these BBQ meetings, I'll second Coach's recommendation.

We also go to Carter Brothers BBQ in High Point, NC and find it excellent also.

My vote goes to Salt Lick outside Austin for Best Brisket and Best atmosphere.

I am a firm believer that the more the place looks like it's going to fall over, the better the BBQ, and for that reason, and because I always eat myself sick, Best Ribs goes to Cattle Drive, southeast of Houston.

Admittedly not the best in the USA, but they are plenty delicious enough for an Honorable Mention, and will most likely be catering my wedding, is Sagebrush in Grand Lake, CO.

I'll have to remember that one if I ever make it out to NC. I'd be heading to Statesville anyway, to visit the Gillette-Evernham Motorsports Shop, so it's always nice to know of a good place to eat in the area.

I have to disagree. I visited Dreamland this week and was underwhelmed. Ribs weren't cooked well...the sauce was nice, but the food itself didn't inspire. Comparing these to Rendezvous in Memphis, it's not even close...meat fell off the bone.
