Speaking of Switzerland, I had dinner at Cafe de Paris in Geneva last night. All they do is steak frites. You sit down they bring you a salad and ask how you want your steak cooked and what you want to drink. Nothing else on the menu. It comes for the table, sliced with a flavored butter on it. They come around periodically offering to top off the fries. It was superb. Pretty reasonably priced for Geneva as well.
Speaking of steak frites, I went to Rue Cler here in Durham last weekend for brunch and they have steak frites on their menu. It's $24 ($26 if you want eggs) and absolutely phenomenal, probably the best I've had. The restaurant is good too, part bistro, part bakery, so come for begniets at least if you're in the Triangle. |

After many great recommendations found in this thread, I tried out El Establo for our last night in Buenos Aires. Wow! The steak (ojo de bife) was superb! It was the best steak that we had there, and easily ranks up there with some of the best steak I've ever had. I wish we had tried it out sooner.
The place looked more like an old pub with fluorescent lights, nothing like what you'd expect from a steakhouse, but the meat was fantastic and the tastes were excellent. Thanks for the great recommendations! And with the Argentine peso's weakness, my steak came out to $12. I had a nice demi-bottle for also about $12. Our total bill for two people with side (mushrooms with bacon in garlic oil sauce... really really delicious) came out to be $50 after tip. |

I recently had occasion to visit Boston Chops in Boston. I had the best skirt steak I have ever had (previously, it was El Establo in Buenos Aires). Three out of four of us had the skirt steak at the recommendation of the waiter. It comes with unlimited French fries. Everyone had the same opinion as I. I can't speak for any of the other steaks on their menu. The sides were excellent - roasted mushrooms and spicey broccoli. They also had a great dessert - sticky toffee pudding. It's a very attractive room.

Apart from the ones I cook at home (my favorite ;))...
I prefer Ruth's Chris in the US. Consistently good quality steaks and they never let me down. Being from NYC, I also love Peter Luger's. First time I went there I wasn't that impressed, but over time I've started to love their porterhouses. And their bacon strips are excellent as well. Here in China, everyone seems to pretentious when it comes to steaks and I've had a waiter bring out the steak out well done after I told him I wanted medium rare, he laughed and told me a well done steak is how it's suppose to be like it's my first time at the eating a steak or something. |

When in Vegas, I always head over to Vic & Anthony's. Another Great Steak House in Houston
Hey All I heard of a great steakhouse in Houston that I want to take my wife to. We both love steak. Its called the Rio Ranch Steak House. They also have some good seafood. Can't wait to try it!!

I'm probably a bit biased as I eat here quite often, but The Palm is without a doubt the best steakhouse chain in the world. From the quality of the steak, to the atmosphere, it is truly a special place, especially for those who are regulars. Morton's has crashed badly after being acquired by Landry's. Ruth's Chris would definitely be my second choice. Bobby Vann's is hit or miss. Last filet I had there was too fatty.

Can you elaborate? I haven't been enough since the acquisition to have a lot of data points. In fact, I think I've been only twice, but I did not notice any significant difference from before the acquisition.

FWIW, I went to a Morton's in Cleveland back in June and I was pretty unimpressed. In fact, the ahi tuna tacos appetizer was far more memorable than the steak.

1) Argentina with local friends who know 2) Brazilian barbecues 3) My home country Finland has a restaurant "Pippurimylly" in Turku city which is by far the best I've experienced (3 times) in Nordic countries. Not at all a reputated place, rather a "hidden" exception |
