I believe it was mentioned far upthread, but for me in the DC area, Ray's the Steaks in Arlington is my choice. The affordable prices alone really make a difference--but of course the steaks are sublime.

Disappointing experience at Morton's for me, as well, recently. I went about 2 weeks ago, expecting the same service and presentation I remember from years back. There was no presentation of the steaks, as before. Our waitress was a little young girl, cracking jokes about drinking (inappropriate to me for the type of dining experience I was expecting). The steak was subpar, very tender (I got the Cajun ribeye) but not as spicy as I would have liked for Cajun and swimming in grease (or butter...but whatever it was, the steak was literally wet). The appetizers were good (Lobster cocktail and crabcake) but the sides tasted like they were frozen and maybe the "chef" added a seasoning or two after it was zapped in the micro (case in point, the creamed spinach had nutmeg).

Next stop for me to visit next-Peter Luger's.

I've been to Luger's in Brooklyn a few times to meet friends who live around there. I just don't get it. The steaks are good, but not 3x the price good.

Lugers seems to be more of a preference thing. Its a good steak. Great sides. but i prefer Delfriscos in NYC any day over Lugers.

Fully agree with this comment! Give me a Delfriscos strip over a Lugers porterhouse...any day. In fact, during my last trip to Lugers I found the steak to be chewy and loaded with too much fat. Also, I'm a sucker for the Delfriscos lemon cake!

In Calgary, Vintage Chophouse next to Ruth's Chris is the best IMO. Caesars is a close third.

There's a 'new' one called Hy's (new because they had an establishment in Calgary, left, and now they're back).

Berne's Steakhouse in Tampa is my favorite. The food, the extensive wine cellar, the Dessert room etc. Wonderful!

Also like Shula's in Orlando at the Dolphin resort at Walt Disney World.

I have dined at that location; and while it was very good, I thought that the original location in Miami Lakes was better overall than the Orlando location.

a chuleton from the right places in the basque country or even in the big cities of madrid...wow, stares right down at any of the places mentioned here

I've never really had steak in the Basque region before - do you have any particular recommendations? Are these steakhouses or broader restaurants that do a great steak?

I'll throw in a vote for DONS de la Nature in Tokyo. By far, the best steak I have ever had in my life.

notably in bilbao it is a place called Markina
and outside that area just had a great one from Madrid's Pelotari

both are typical rustic old restaurants with a convivial atmosphere. the first you can be seated eating a steak next to all the locals standing up at the bar for pintxos.

they dont ask you how its done - they cook to their liking and slice it for plating. the steaks come more rare than anything ive ever seen - blood red in center. very yellow fat indicative of cattle's diet. most similar to a bistecca fiorentina

couldnt get a reservation for , but michelin-starred Extebarri is notable for its chef elaborately making his own charcoal from fresh cords. thats how dedicated he is

Favorite steakhouses:
Montreal, Canada - Le Queue de Cheval. Had a softball-sized Filet with goat cheese on top.
Miami Lakes, FL - Shula's. Had the Porterhouse. Loved it.
Arlington, VA - Ray's the Steaks. Loved the Porterhouse, got the larger size.
Seattle/Bellevue, WA - Daniel's Broiler. Had Filet Mignon a la Oscar. One of the best steaks I ever ate.
Seattle, WA - Metropolitan Grill. Enjoyed the Filet there as well. They offered 1/2 Wagyu (sp?) and 1/2 American. Both were delicious.
