I was a bit partial when Mother Tucker's in YYC was still in business.. Smugglers YYC was good as well.

Now MT's is gone with the wind because of a new high rise development.. Smugglers downsized, and there are two other restaurants in the building where it used to be entirely Smugglers.

I have to say that Chelsea Prime in Atlantic City is at the near-top, if not the top, of my list.

Currently, I think very highly of:

Charlie Palmer Steak in Las Vegas
Mastro's Beverly Hills
SideCut Whistler

and one each in Kyoto and Tokyo whose names escape me -- absolutely wonderful Kobe and Matsuzaka beef.....

Where Are The Best Steakhouses In The World?

My favorite steakhouses:

CUT Steakhouse by Wolfgang Puck - Las Vegas
Mastro's - Costa Mesa
David Burke's Primehouse - Chicago

From one Wings fan to another, you might want to visit Roast if your travels take you to the D. Located down the street from the Joe in the Westin Book Cadillac, it's a carnivore's delight, with its steaks all dry-aged on site. Specials are touted as the "roast beast of the day."

34 Restaurant in the Smoke (London) takes some beating.

Had a really good piece of meat in Ramsey's new steakhouse in Paris, Las Vegas recently. Very nice indeed. Not the traditional 'steakhouse atmosphere' , at least, not at the bar area where I ate. Nice, attentive but not fawning, staff too.

My current favorite: Ditka's in Chicago.

Thank you for the restaurant recommendation. I didn't know Michael Symon has a restaurant in Detroit. I've been to Michael Symon's Lola Bistro in Cleveland which I absolutely loved. The food is absolutely outstanding.

Reminds me. Harry Carey's used to have some pork chop with some tasty sounding preparation on their menu. Right after that, the menu said, "Plain Pork Chop: Go to Ditka's." :)

BTW, a del Frisco's just opened in Chicago - big risk for a city know for it's number of good steak houses. Any thoughts on what to expect?

I've been over a few times. It's exactly what you'd expect if you know the original; gaudy, gorgeous room, doting but pretentious service, and really pretty good. I thought the steak was tasty, nothing more than that. Very much in line with Mastro's. The place is too trendy; I prefer my steakhouses to be decidedly old-school.

In terms of the other major Chicago places, Ditka's ranks very low on my list. Currently, I love Hugo's for the local (but not exclusive) vibe, Chicago Cut for the raw energy, Gene's for the clubbiness, and, still, the original Morton's for the best beef. Benny's had a pretty damn good Chicago ribeye last week too.

Been to Peter Lugar, and Cabana Las Lilas in Buenos Aires, both were very very good.

The best is Bern's in Tampa.. they cut to order, so you can ask for thickness, and even 'area'.. i.e. Rib eye with the cap attached, 2 inch thick..
grilled to perfection and their wine list is legendary.

Not only do they have an awesome steak, but you can sit in the bar and have a steak sandwich or a steak burger for $10. This is great if you're in a rush but want to experience Bern's. Don't look for it on the menus, it's not there...you have to ask for it.
