I took that money and ran as fast as I could to Petrossian at the Bellagio, where I ate about $500.00 worth of caviar and drank chilled vodka all by myself. It was a wonderfully, decadent experience.
I love this one too obscure2K. ^

The most expensive meal i didnt have

i flew dc to brussels ariving at 7 am, to my hotel at 8 am, and my date shows up at noon. she suggests we visit this nice Chinese restauarant. after a 20 euro cab ride, we get to this restuarant. she then tries to order the $160 euro seafood dish for 2.

my first thought was damn, thats my whole days per diem, quickly followed by,

i have only had 3 hours of sleep in the last 48 hours so there in no way i could get my moneys worth out of her afterwards.

to finally, i had all you can east chinese the other day at the chinese buffet place in the k-mart mall on elden street, and that was only $5.95 + tax

at that point the date was over and i left

This is my favorite! ;)

And for those prices, you damn well better have put up with sleepiness and made it worth your while...

Morton's, Hackensack, NJ, and it wasn't worth $420 for a party of four. Fortunately, we had an Amex certificate for $250 to lighten the load.

My most expensive dinner was at the Park Hyatt, Shinjuku, Tokyo. A business dinner for 12 people, US$14750, including cocktails, several course dinner, and Cuban cigars and brandy. Outstanding service, food and view.
And yes, I got the order which made the expense insignificant.

I think the "Pétrus Six" still hold the record at $62,700 for six and that was just the wine. In fact so pleased were Pétrus with the wine ordered that they didn't bother to charge them for the food!

Restaurant Godt, Copenhagen, a few months ago, 1790 DKK which came out to just over US$300.

Partly the reason it was SO expensive is the really lousy exchange rate for USD....but I have to say it was very GODT ('good' in Danish).....

A little over $5400 a few months ago for 23 people at the Mortons in San Diego. Overpriced? Yes. I hate restaurants that nickel and dime you for every little thing - like a la carte sides of vegetables.

My most expensive dinner was at formal dining room in the Le Reserve de Bellieau in Bellieau Sur Mer, France, this past January. Just me and my other half, $620. The restaurant was and hotel outstanding and worth every penny.

In 1991, I took 4 friends out for dinner at La Luna in Paris to celebrate getting into Biz school and the bill was 2500FF (about 800 Euro?). Had a wonderful grilled loup de mer.

More recent -
US$400 in Hyde Park Grill in Cleveland for 3 with excellent food and wine in Apr
Euro 330 in Aria in Prag for 3 for a friend's B-day (a little overpriced) in May
Euro 300 for brunch at the Park Hyatt Vendome which was very nice.

Other nice meals at Gotham Bar and Grill, Gramacy Tavern, and other nice restuarant but mostly for lunch which kept the prices down to about $100 per head.

Memorably expensive meals

Luckily, I didn't have to pay for either of the most expensive meals I've ever had. Dinner for three at Le Cinque in Paris last week (the smaller of the two tasting menus, plus an extra course, with wines by the glass chosen by the sommelier) probably would have cost about €900 - 1.000. I was with a travel-writer friend and his mother, and we were comped. It was by far the best meal of my life.

A few years ago (before the bubble burst) a client took me to the French Laundry for the second-best meal of my life. My client was in the wine business, and a semi-regular at the Laundry. It was a real boys'-night-out, with about two bottles of really good wine per head, and a check well above $2,000 for four people.

The biggest check I've paid personally was at home in Los Angeles, for myself, my travel writer friend, his mom, and two other friends. I took them all to dinner at Patina and a concert at Disney Hall as a Christmas gift. Dinner and the tickets (I forget the breakdown) came to about $1,500, and it was worth every penny. I'm repeating the experience on Sunday with a different friend, although this time I booked a matinee concert so we can linger at Patina...
