Most Expensive Dinner

What is your most expensive dinner? Mine would be $250 at Esca in NY.

dctorres Oct 15, 2003 10:23 am

€550 on lunch. Happened once, hope it will happen again.

Anytime.

€950 at "t'Deurtje just outside Amsterdam. I won a battle of Doom 3D at my office and oddly enough I was the one that ended up taking a collegue out to dinner.

I don't believe I know any Dutch specialities, ScottC. Can you give a few examples?

I spent almost, well my dad, $800 for dinner for us in Las Vegas, at the Caesar's Palace.

Which, by the way, thread should go in to DiningBuzz!

Let's follow it there.

I think about $350US for a Charlie Trotter's New Year's Eve dinner.

Almost every dish had tons of truffles which I found out that evening that I really did not appreciate in that quanity.

skofarrell Oct 15, 2003 11:37 am

6 people, $1,800 (not including tip) at Picasso in the Bellagio, Las Vegas.

I paid cash. http://www.flyertalk.com/dining/ftdi...orum/smile.gif

My husband and I had lunch at Pierre Gagnaire and I think it was about $550 or $600. L'Oustau de Bauminere was $550ish for three.

We've had lots of meals in the $300-to-$400-for-two range. When traveling to a good restaurant area, we often book a few of these for the same week. I save the menus and have many framed and hanging in the eating area of the kitchen.

At Caviar Kaspia in Paris, I believe we paid around $300 for a lunch which consisted only of Ossetra Caviar, blinis and vodka. Sure was decadent, if not exactly filling http://www.flyertalk.com/dining/ftdi...orum/smile.gif

Dinner at Dieter Mueller's restaurant in Schloss Leerbach - absolutely superb 3 Michelin star restaurant - 750 EUR for 4.

Charlie Trotter's for me, too - between the three of us, though, it was just about $500 (incl. tax & tip), but this was probably 8 years ago.

2 lunches right after each other... for shame.

$550- Le Grand Vefour, Paris- as if that wasn't enough we bought some custom hats in the Palais Royal boutiques!

$490- Taillevent, Paris- complete palate paradise

raffy Oct 16, 2003 5:08 pm

$700ish for Kobe steak dinner in Kobe, Japan for 2 ppl. I don't recall the name of the restaurant since it was about 4 years ago.

$2,205.90 (I still have the bill) for a dinner in San Jose at Maggianos for a small group of co-workers. I think it was the wine that added more than $1,000 to the bill ... and I don't even drink.

JerryFF Oct 16, 2003 10:37 pm

$450 for 2 - dinner at Masa's in SF at the FT extravaganza - 9 course tasting menu including wine tasting.

Pickles Oct 17, 2003 9:33 am

6,000 quid for 20 people at the Oriental restaurant at the Dorchester Hotel. We were celebrating a $375 million USD deal, and we figured an additional 10K hit on the expense report wasn't going to be noticed. Mind you, this was a deal where "because you needed to be there ASAP" was considered a good reason to fly Concorde over and over.

Dugernaut Oct 17, 2003 12:44 pm

$40.00 at the TGIF in San Diego 25 years ago on the first date with my wife. I've been paying for it ever since http://www.flyertalk.com/dining/ftdi...orum/smile.gif

PremEx Oct 18, 2003 1:14 pm

$445 per person including taxes and gratuity for New Years Eve dinner.

Biggest single check I've personally picked up...USD$14,000+. At the same restaurant as the New Years dinner mentioned above, but not the same visit.

That was many, many years ago in better times, financially! And as much as I'd like to have that 14 grand in my checking account right now, I'd still have to say it was worth every penny! http://www.flyertalk.com/dining/ftdi...orum/smile.gif

gleff Oct 18, 2003 2:25 pm

Biggest single meal check I've paid... ~ $100k. But that was for 400 people, for work, and I put it on a credit card for the points. http://www.flyertalk.com/dining/ftdi...um/biggrin.gif

Regularly pick up 4 figure dinner bills at team outings - the look on waiters faces when they are pointed to the young lad down the end for payment.

Here's a warning though:-
http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/main...24/ncity24.xml

Still think that holds the record for expensive dinner per person.

Thanks,
Richard

Something over $800 for dinner for four at the Inn at Little Washington in Washington, Virginia. Worth every penny.

I had dinner at Les Ambassadeurs last year. It was splendid, but I didn't have to pay. I was also treated to dinner at Boyer Les Crayers in Reims, France. That came in at around $800, but again, I didn't have to pay.

alanw Oct 26, 2003 8:21 am

A little over 1.000 pounds at Quaglino's in London for four people. The food wasn't that expensive so it must have been the wine. I was so jetlagged I actually fell asleep at the table with my head resting against a pillar behind my seat. Until my colleagues woke me up to pay the bill.

What place if you don't mind?

ermdjdsj Nov 19, 2003 3:23 pm

Around $850 for 3 (Auberge, Napa Valley -- one of us wasn't drinking or it would have been worse).

I remember doing a quick mental calculation RE how I could have gotten an international round trip ticket and then some for that money, but still had no regrets http://www.flyertalk.com/dining/ftdi...orum/smile.gif .

most expensive single meal that I paid for: €2500 + tip at Margaux in Berlin, for a birthday party of 8 or so.

most expensive single meal per person that I paid for: €900 + tip for 2 at Le Pergola in Rome, although €700 of that was for two bottles of wine.

knowitall Dec 23, 2003 2:23 pm

About $600 for dinner for 3 @ Charlie Trotter's & a good value at that; about $300 for the meal & balance for wine, tax & tip. We probably got $75 worth of dessert included. After dinner, Mrs T (Charlie's mother) quietly took us & a few others on a kitchen tour.

Auberge du soleil ? We were there once, four of us for about 800$. Very nice view over the valley, gorgeous sunset. A dinner I will never forget.

Was once at the auberge du soleil. Gorgeous view of the Napa Valley. Stunning sunset and perfectly presented food.
800$ for four, well invested.

Quality is remembered long after price is forgotten. - absolutely true for this relais et chateau restaurant.

about $120 for myself, dinner in Montreal.

rfrost Jan 27, 2004 2:34 pm

About $750 for two at Alain Ducasse in New York when it first opened. All those pens didn't come cheap.

LISAA Jan 28, 2004 3:45 pm

Auberge du Soleil in Napa; $244 lunch for two. That is the minimum you spend if you dine on Lobster at the Palm <anywhere> No comparison! and the hilltop experience overlooking the vineyards on a lazy June afternoon........Priceless!

The most expensive dinner was a dinner at „Im Schiffchen“ in Düsseldorf-Kaiserswerth (3 Star Guide Michelin) in 1998 : 630,00 DM (320,00 EUR) for me and a girl-friend.

The dinner was good, but Jean-Claude Bourgueil is not always on top level.

I prefer the Restaurant Vieux Sinzig in Sinzig (a village near Koblenz) or Steinheuers Restauran in Bad Neuenahr-Ahrweiler.

What did you eat and drink for 320K?
