BYOB value versus full bar convenience poll

Here is an informal poll to see who likes the value of BYOB restaurants or those who prefer the convenience and options of a full bar in the restaurant.

Of the BYOB restaurants I have been to, most of the cuisine served has gone well w/beer. In that case I like BYOB.

But if traveling, the convenience (wine choices) of full bar is hard to beat.

sorry to tangent, but a quick youth drinking story. We used to go to Gino's Pizzeria on Superior in chicago because we would be served beer at 16 years old (back in the 70's). Even though we could get served we were too cheap to pay for as many pitchers as we would go through, so we would each hide a 6pack w/us in our coats. One time the waitress came back to our table after serving us our 1st pitcher. She had a puzzled look on her face as we had filled the pitcher full w/some of the beer from cans, yet all our glasses were filled as well.

I enjoy both options. We have a decent-sized wine celler and enjoy bringing our own bottle from time to time. Out of respect, we seldom bring a bottle to a restaurant that has a very extensive wine list though or that has something that would compare to what we would have brought. At the same time, we enjoy trying new things that we might not have considered purchasing before.

In Australia, we very much enjoyed the large number of restaurants that sold no alcohol, but would serve your own bottle for about US$1-2.
