On Oct. 11, many restaurants in New York and around the world will donate at least 10 percent of their profits to a scholarship fund for the children of food service workers who died in the terrorist attacks last week.
"Most of the victims were among the lowest-paid people in the business," said Waldy Malouf, the chef at Beacon in Midtown, one of the chefs leading the drive. Another is Michael Lomonaco, chef at two of the restaurants destroyed in the World Trade Center, Windows on the World and Wild Blue, which together lost scores of workers.
A list of participating restaurants will be announced soon, Mr. Malouf said.
Information: (212) 332-0500, extension 3132.
