New Orleans Restaurants

I'm traveling to New Orleans August 3rd. for a long weekend. Any sure bets for good places to eat? Thanks.....

Too many to mention. It really depends on what you want and how much you want to pay. That being said, one sure bet is the Gumbo Shop (in the Quarter); the food's great, and the prices are reasonable. Bon appetit!

If you get there in time, go to Friday lunch at Galatoire's. It is very much a locals' scene with the Nawlins' socialites all out meeting and greeting. An interesting scene!

Other personal favorites would include Acme Oyster House, Tujagues, Court of Two Sisters for Sunday brunch, Lucky Changs (very unique servers) and Cafe du Monde for coffee and beignets in the wee hours.

On the more upscale side, Peristyle (in the French Quarter)is excellent, as is Bayona (also in the Quarter). Both highlight very talented female chefs.

For lunch, it's hard to do better than a leisurely meal at the Acme: a pitcher (or two) of beer, a dozen (or two) oysters on the half shell, po boys and gumbo. A fine way to spend a few hours.

I know it is late, but this could be a very good thread.

Want to put in my vote for breakfast at Brennan's. Awesome.

Also, Belly up to the ACME Oyster Bar for some fresh shucked ones.

Nola was very good for dinner.

An oyster or shrimp Po'Boy from Johnny's Po'Boys is a not to miss for me.

A great lunch is to grab a muffuletta from the Central Grocery store. Some prefer the muffulettas from Progress, but my vote goes w/Central's. Take the sandwiches and eat atop the levy watching the ships on the big muddy.

If you have a car, a really good restaurant is about a 45 minute drive across Lake Ponchartrain to La Provence. The "provincial" Frech food is to die for.

Although he is too famous for his own good, Emeril Lagasse has two of the best U.S. restaurants in New Orleans: Emeril's and NOLA. The pork chop at NOLA is the greatest piece of meat I've ever eaten, and the banana cream pie at Emeril's is the greatest dessert I've had. Both are expensive and very hard to get into on short notice, but well worth it.

Actually Emeril has 3 - you missed Delmonico's - went there for lunch - well worth it - as they all are.

I second the suggestions of Peristyle and Bayona( the most absolute best rabbit ever)
Also Upperline for really inventive cusine
had a fantastic meal also, at Nola but I
understand they are currently closed to for rennovations.
Also very good lunch at the Palace Cafe.

I've only been once, but memorable restaurants are:

Arnaud's- excellent upscale place, in the middle of the FQ

Cafe Du Monde (I don't know if I spelled that correctly)- inventor of the begniet, great for a really cheap breakfast or snack.
