Hmm...are you sure you aren't my husband? Because that was us last year! I planted annuals in the ground, perennials in pots and had mint gone wild. This year I pulled out all of the mint (well, except for one little bit that keeps popping up between pavers) and put it in a pot, I bought a vertical planter that now is home to mainly annuals herbs (three kinds of thyme, rosemary, cilantro, parsley, dill, marjoram and oregano) and I've moved the thyme to the bed with the chives. I still have sage in a pot because I was sure it wasn't going to come back this spring, so I bought a new one, and now I have two sage plants -- it will get transplanted into the ground at some point. The reorganization, plus the addition of my garden plot a few blocks away, means I'm using about five fewer big pots (24" in diameter) than last year and am using considerably less patio space.

Ha - more alike than you think. When we moved into this house last May, we focused mainly on doing things on the inside - painting, decorating, floors, etc. This spring we decided to focus on the outside. Part of that involved removing some (probably) 40 year old overgrown bushes on the south side of the house. The plan was to create a raised herb garden in it's place and then surround it with some type of hedge. But a combination of a late start, decision to plant boxwoods as the ring (which take some time to grow in), and the price of lumber (I was going to build the raised beds), forced me into Plan B. Plywood on cement blocks in the back of the house for this year. It's working great and we still get about 8 hours of sun there, but it's definitely a hillbilly garden. I'm hoping to move back to the original plan next spring, and if all goes well it will be better organized and will look good.

I have also used basil and other herbs in cocktails. If not drinking, it would probably be good in lemonade.

Add some vodka to that, and I'd drink it :).

Indonesian Nasi Bakar, something from another part of the world.

Basically grilled rice with vegetables and meat and served with condiments like a peanut cracker, fried potato sticks, and raw vegetables with chilli dip.

Where can I get peanut crackers? That would be served frequently in my home.

that’s how I felt about my red jalapeño $8 hot sauce. Less heat than mainstream Tabasco brand.

I have never seen it outside Indonesia. Inside Indonesia it's called Rempeyek or just Peyek for short. Aside from peanuts the most common ones have kaffir lime leaves as an ingredient, some others add dried shrimps, soybeans.

Here's a recipe online if you're keen to make them yourself.
