Our event in PayPal park was so fun that I couldn’t leave my seat to get food. Then an hour to return home…
10:30p supper cooking (Started thinking about it during the drive home) Leftover Noodle pasta with clam sauce (canned clams) first time I’ve cooked it - I first enjoyed linguine with clams as a child. It strongly resembles Chinese chow mein and it’s definitely more Italian as it has butter & olive oil. https://cimg9.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fly...f06b1dbe4.jpeg |

Satisfying Japanese meal
After a rather disastrous Japanese meal the night before , we dined at one of our regular clubs & had Japanese again .
Had to try erase the memories of our bad meal , even when one has to be thankful with dining in possible with a friend . Also one gets travel through meals & to eat during these stressful no or restrictive travel times .. https://cimg7.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fly...a52461210.jpeg Ikura chawanmushi https://cimg9.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fly...b8e39b91c.jpeg Tofu salad https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fly...b5047968a.jpeg Tempura chasoba https://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fly...ea59dc0e2.jpeg Sakura Ebi https://cimg6.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fly...4c9159ebe.jpeg Shiosaba https://cimg8.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fly...4d6fbfadc.jpeg Ebi , love the Japanese mayo https://cimg9.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fly...b2c6c6aef.jpeg Momo / peach ice cream |
What was I thinking ? I will be eating leftovers for a while. CE's steak dinner inspired me to try Wagyu. It is good but I probably won't buy again. Cooked to 126.

Tonight, my wife is having a couple friends over. I reluctantly agreed to pick up Greek food from one of our local favorites, since they don't deliver. I'm craving gyros now but that might change by this evening :). |

How does this make you feel? Weird not to tip? I'd love to see all restaurants move to no tipping. At places here like Alinea or Next, one buys a ticket that's all-inclusive, so your tip is included in the ticket price. But until more restaurants get there, the non-ticket restaurants that are no-tip still feel strange to me. I have to fight the urge to leave a little extra in cash on the table after I pay the check... I always otherwise overtip because it’s just brutal business which is why I’m so happy to reduce restaurants in my life. So zero-tip places are perfect for me. |

Burgers and roasted brussels sprouts. Nice simple summer dinner.

Omg braslvr grilled chicken thigh tip for the win. 40-45 minutes at LOW with 4-5 turns on the grill. Maybe it took longer than the 40 minutes they mentioned because I brined the thighs and surely didn’t perfectly dry them. Plus at one turn, I discovered that there was zero flame so I restarted the grill :-)
omg omg I love braslvr cooking tip. I learn so much here. My family asked me “what’s Brazil lover’s real name” so I responded “b r a s l v r” :-) grilled chicken thighs (braslvr) Baked potatoes roasted carrots raw carrots & cucumbers sautéed beet greens roasted beets (not eaten - too full but they’ll be a future salad!) maybe sugar dessert https://cimg7.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fly...db6791fb6.jpeg https://cimg8.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fly...27f167dc3.jpeg https://cimg9.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fly...e9fa77ede.jpeg https://cimg0.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fly...52f653201.jpeg https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fly...43df2d767.jpeg https://cimg2.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fly...3afb1727c.jpeg |

Thanks, glad you liked them. All grills are a bit different and I'm thinking your "low" is a tad lower than mine. 40 minutes on my grill at low yields a definitely darker skin which I like. For me, on your grill, I would try bumping it up to between low and med next time.
this was so delicious that I didn’t use much of the Korean bbq sauce I stirred up. Our child ate two thighs with zero sauce. it’s really nice to now know that I can eat bbq sauce from the jar without needing to cook it. I never realized that it’s a condiment like ketchup or mustard. I really want to cook these again and sooner than later. Mega yum. Omg. |

the food is delicious and fries uber crisp. Love them so much. That said, I last ate there on january 17 2020 with my spouse. Carnt say why we’ve yet to return because I normally would get the chicken gyro. Now that I’ve grilled thighs ala braslvr, I’m not sure if I would ever need to order chicken at any local restaurant for the rest of my life. |
We had dinner last night at The Goblin Market in Mount Dora. No reservations so we were invited to dine in the bar which gave us access to the pub menu as well as the dinner menu. Mrs BV and her dad ordered 5 spice duck breast. I had grilled amberjack off the specials menu. All were accompanied by crisp, thinly sliced vegetables. They had mashed potato as well. I had wild rice and some sort of orange puree to anchor the fish to the plate - it may have been sweet potato. Very nice bread service and excellent micro greens salads with the most delicate vinaigrette I’ve tasted. A bottle of California cab and a couple Drambuies straight up for dessert. Very satisfying. Unfortunately, the place was too dark for pictures and we all dug in the minute the plates hit the table anyway.

Tonight we are heading out of town for the 4th. Depending on traffic and how far along we are, I'm hoping our dinner stop allows my wife to try a Culver's butter burger for the first time ever. If not, maybe on the way home :). |

It was great -- and no clashing. Anchovies add a nice umami flavor, and I suspect that if you didn't know there were anchovies in it, you'd never guess there were. I think anchovies are a great ingredient, and people who shy away from them do so because they don't understand their full flavor potential (or they bit into a filet in a salad and got pricked by a bone).

There are many discussions on here about it. There might even be a whole thread. This wasn't my first.
I can not do a whole anchovy but I agree....in many dishes, it just disappears and leaves a nice salty, umami, rich flavor. I just use anchovy paste (perfect for Caesar salad dressing) and it is very versatile. |

We got our shingles shots this afternoon (2nd for me and 1st for Mrs BV). We went to the brewery to celebrate. And thought we would eat dinner there. But the cook failed to show up for work. So we went home and I cobbled together dinner with cold turkey breast, sweet corn and chopped salad.

It’s my favorite of the spicy chicken sandwiches. I prefer it with a slice of pepperjack on it. Beats CFA by a bit, Church’s by a lot, Wendy’s by a bit. Haven’t tried the new McD’s one yet.

John's Grill, San Francisco. One of the rare downtown tourist spots that you really have to try. I'm a local and have been eating there most weeks for years. I rotate dishes, but most times I order an off-menu steak frites that I sort of invented, with the rib-eye and peppercorn sauce - they'll probably end up adding to the menu and naming it for me if I ever do anything with my life.
