LMAO. Just saw an ad online for Habbersetts scrapple from Goldbelly. $69 for a 4 pack!!! In the supermarket here, the same goes for $4-$6 per package. That’s $16-$24 for 4. I’ve seen other crazy markups on items at this site. Can’t see myself ever buying from them.

Or on their website direct at $38 for 6, one pound packages. It’s the shipping charges that often bumps the prices so high.

Not in this case. Per the GB website, shipping is free. This is pure greed.

Do you believe that Next day air shipping, packaging with dry ice or similar is free? [removed unnecessarily personalized/snarky remark]

There’s a difference between shipping being “baked” in the price, and what it actually costs to provide. [removed unnecessarily personalized remark]

People will buy more product when shipping is “free”, than when it’s charged separately, even if the grand total is the same.

Say 4 pizzas cost $50. Next day air shipping is $39.99. Or you get 4 pizzas with “free” shipping for $89.99. Which is the better deal? They’re the same. Consumers will buy the free shipping deal at a much higher rate. So much so, that most businesses will not list a paid/free shipping option side by side.

Next day air shipping is very expensive. That’s what makes many Goldbelly items so pricey. Plus I’m sure Goldbelly gets a healthy commission on each sale, too.

[removed unnecessarily personalized remark] ]However, my [removed unnecessarily personalized remark] viewpoint sees an item that I can purchase in a store for $16, being sold for $69. Infact, in your first post you point to the manufacturer selling the item for $38 for 6 on their website. [removed unnecessarily personalized remark] where I come from 38 for 6, is less than 69 for 4.

The shipping really isn't free, they just factor it into the price. I'm sure goldbelly gets a huge discount but even then overnight shipping isn't cheap and neither is dry ice or the shipping matereials.

I agree that they factor it into price. Still, the margin is huge. Retail, the product costs 16 bucks. Let’s be conservative. They are paying 10 for the product. (Probably a lot less). Say 15 dollars is profit. (Not bad on a 10 dollar item). 15 and 10 is 25. 44 is left over. Do you think shipping bulk rate), labor costs, real estate and supplies (dry ice) accounts for 44 dollars?
We won’t solve this here today, absent the Goldbelly economics. Just my personal feeling that on this product, and others, they are a rip off.

I highlighted the operative word. Of course you wouldn't buy it from Goldbelly since you can hop in a car and get it at your local grocery store. Goldbelly sells nostalgia and trends, not products. If you were to move to the west coast, and you couldn't find Habbersetts Scrapple on the shelf of Ralph's, and you couldn't make it back to the east coast for a few months, then you might change your tune.

Goldbelly also received $100M in venture capital funding this year. My guess is if they were remotely profitable, they wouldn't need as much funding.

I’m sure Goldbelly has had a lot more sales in the last 18 months. People working from home, willing to pay extra for fast service. Building that market share isn’t cheap.

They've also done a lot of coupons, deals with Amex, that I’m sure is mainly to bring in new customers. $20 off a $50-60 purchase is a sizable discount. They’ve got a huge variety of items across the US and parts of Canada. There are items I’d order from them again, if the right sale or coupon was available.

I have been using Goldbelly a lot this year. I've had a lot more disposable income since I haven't had to spend it traveling and on theater tickets (my two largest items by far I spend my disposible income on) and it's nice being able to splurge and treat myself to things from other cities that I can't here.

I'd love to be able to go a local bakery to buy babka but that's not possible. Same with these ice cream sandwiches I love. I know I'm paying a huge premium but worth it.

And I have a ton of chase points I'm sitting on since I couldn't travel until a couple months ago and it was a great use of those since Goldbelly would trigger pay yourself back for a grocery puchase.

Goldbelly has a 20% off sale. Doesn’t apply to “on sale” items, or shipping. They say it’s a 3 day sale, but they often extend them.

Code: GOLDBELLYSUMMER

boxo Aug 19, 2021 3:35 pm

I found an email from yesterday has a 25% off code HELLOSUMMER25. No stated expiration date, $50 minimum, full-priced items, and a handful of excluded stores.

The 25% one is supposedly for first time buyers only. Says it expires on Friday, but they often extend. Originally expired on Wednesday. I don’t see the $50 min.

I received the email and I am definitely not a first timer. Tested it too. Thankfully, Imperfect Foods has a 40% off sale on the spatchcocked chickens and I have no spare room in the freezer.
