I think if there's Arctic Char or Cedar Planked Salmon on the menu, I'd zone in on those.

199 was the price, which is a hair over $30, which I could accept if the product was awesome. However, Abbey Road, the place next to Abbey Road, and Shanghai Brewery all offer (from what I can tell) the same fish for Y130.

I'd love to get crab legs for that price, so lucky! King crab legs takeout meals at restaurants here in Chicago are priced at about $90 right now - twice what we used to see. Even if that's larger portions, the price is insane.

oops sorry - king crab legs are $28/lb or so at Costco, which is what I buy and eat at home. I just generally dont spend $19 a meal for myself, when home in sf, so its stunning to picture that pricing in China.

To provide an extreme example, when the Westin first opened, its Sunday brunch (champagne, caviar, king crab, etc) was Y200 pp, but buy 2, get 1 free (not a bad deal when you're in your early 20s and have a huge appetite). Now, that exact same brunch costs Y600, and it often sells out.

That's still cheaper than the Sunday Brunch at Ritz-Carlton Singapore (at SGD192). Though prices in Shanghai has definitely become expensive or at least on par with many cosmopolitan cities around the world. I remember my first time to Shanghai in 2001, an hour of foot reflexology costs less than 60RMB, and in 2019, it costs twice as much. However prices in Shanghai does not reflect that of China, as things are still cheap in the rural parts of China, though in first-tier cities, they are more or less on par with places like Singapore, HK and Taipei.
