no-no-no
So totally ordinary. I can't believe that anyone thinks much of them.
On the other hand, beats starving on the interstate. |
I've only had them once, in Vegas. We do not have an in-n-out in Atlanta. I went there because of a free gift card that I received from something that was posted in S.P.A.M. a while ago. Maybe because I went to the drive-thru or maybe because I didn't have any idea what to order because of all the choices, but I didn't find anything memorable about it. I've never been back.

Living in southern california you'd swear saying anything bad about in&out was punishable by death. The burgers are ok, interesting taste, lots of grease and fairly small. It's certainly not a bad meal but I don't get all the rave or the "best burger ever" comments... they're way too little to get that distinction.

There's practically a consensus on the Japan Forum agreeing with you. MrLapLap certainly does (he's had both).

And LapLap, part of their secret menu is a veggie burger...it enabled a Taoist friend to join us for our meat festivals. let us know if you liked it :) btw. i am now a cheesecake addict after i had one at the cheescake factory in LA :) dp |

And the fries are horrible, no matter what secret way you order them. Except when ordered "well done" when they are brown, limp, and greasy. I suspect it comes from using the wrong sort of potatoes (you gotta have the low mosture, high starch variety) and not keeping the oil hot enough. While we can debate the proper cut of frys (steak, diner, shoestring, waffle, curley, etc.) and whether skin is removed or left on, the fundimentals still apply. A proper french fry should be crisp on the outside and fluffy/mealy on the inside, and have a pale golden brown color on the outside. It must be served hot, but drained of excess fat. If you want to eat good frys with your burger (...and frankly a better chain burger...) go to Fatburger. |
As an east coaster, I finally tried my first In-N-Out burger a few years ago. It was like the Super Bowl seems to be..a lot of hype and a decent experience. With all the other places out there to eat, I don't think I'll be making a return visit, and I like my fast food burgers.

My SoCal staples are a double-double and a Sourdough Jack. There's an In'n'Out about a mile from my Santa Ana office, in the same shopping center as a Trader Joe's. (Separate thread)

Okay, I am missing out here. Where in the world is In-N-Out Burger?

California, Nevada, and Arizona. |
Mmmmm, I made a biannual pilgrimage to INO last week.
For me, the draw is the freshness as well as the entire experience, not because I think they're necessarily the best burger/fries/etc ever. Interesting 411 on wiki. More like a tabloid or soap opera. |
had in n out on tuesday..just as delicious as i remember. :D

I've lived in SoCal for 30 years and, by far, the best burger in the entire area is the one I make at home on my grill. Just like last night (which was a lot better than the turkey being served today but, hey, it's Thanksgiving so what ya' gonna' do.....:D )
Anyway, over those 30 years I've probably only been to In and Out about a dozen times. Never impressed me and I try to stay away from fast food if I can----there are so many better choices! If I do crave a commercial burger I'll search out a Fatburger. To me, far and away superior to anything else out there in SoCal. One tip, make sure that they cook them to order---if they don't, make them do it over again. (And that's pretty much the way I view fast food in general. Ya' don't wanta' cook it the way I want it then I ain't gonna' give ya' my money, honey! :p ) Having said all of that, if I ever have a layover at CVG I'll walk any length of the concourse to get at whatever brand of 'Cincinnati Style' chilli they're serving. Ahhh, a 3-way with extra cheese, a couple of coney dogs to push it down with....:) |
