A double meat with raw onion slice, pickles and extra spread does it for me. The basic SoCal burger. Fries well done when I have them.

We know what braslvr likes. I prefer a double double animal style without pickles. Perhaps thegeneral would like to share his preference.

Quit stalling. As I said, I've been aware of most of those options for years. None of that recommends any particular item or items.

I don't know what YOU claim will impress people who "don't know what to order."

I know what to order - either a double burger or two hamburgers, with ketchup instead (getting dressing on a burger once was quite enough!) and the raw onion.

We're hardly talking about haute cuisine here. As far as I can tell, the only real innovation is "animal style," and as I disklike mustard, there's no particular reason to assume that frying it in it will improve their hamburger.

Every other item on the secret menu is essentially available at other burger places; "light" or "well done" fries are the sort of thing you get by accident elsewhere, and neither one of them seems likely to make a big difference in their fries (which are good enough in their way, but I prefer more substantial cut ones to the skinny ones that they do.)

With the exception of "animal style," none of the options described on the web are remotely imaginative. Frankly, I wouldn't want In-n-out to try doing Philly Cheesesteak - it's not their schtick nor something I'd expect a burger place to do well... let alone one as expensive as Wagyu w. Stilton (which sounds intriguing, if likely to be a waste of meat of that quality, and not a good match for a cheese that strong)

On the other hand, that would kill any "intriguing" for me - I don't eat fungus.

Given your negativity towards food and your bias to determine what tastes good based solely on your perception, I doubt that you'd find anything that anyone on here would suggest as good. You remind me of a 6 year old that decides they don't like onions because their mother doesn't like onions.

Why are you in the dining thread anyways if you have such a negative, pre-made opinion of food.

What is "taste" if not a specific kind of "perception?"

You've you've refused to answer my question of August 19th; I'm going to rephrase that so as to be very generic: "Taking a hypothetical person who is aware of the publically known 'secret menu' items but not being obviously drawn to any one of them, and a single visit to In-n-out, what should they order so that they'll be impressed?"

Or does that not apply, because you really meant by "don't really have a clue of what/how to order there" just that they don't know about the (not-very-)'secret' menu items?

You're assuming that all strong opinions are negative - I read FT dining because I've got strong opinions about food both positive and negative. Now, I'm in this thread because you've been refusing to answer my question (and trotting out the same assertion to other people, without explanation) for a couple of months now... otherwise, frankly, I've said what I've got to about In-n-Out.

I think its time to let this go. If you two care to continue bickering, then please do so offline.

I made a little snafu in scheduling, apparently I won't be able to walk/take a shuttle to the LAX In-N-Out on my day of travel because my flight is at 11, and the place doesn't open until 10:30....


The only other logical solution is to pig out the night before... nothing like a double double animal style for some midnight munchies.


Is it sort of "obligatory" to go to the LAX store for this experience, or do you think just about any other location will suffice?

PS. this whole LA trip is going to be bad for my health... between Pinks and In-N-Out I might as well cancel the rental car and resort to walking to help burn the influx of calories...

I've been to two of them. The one closest to the Eastern end of LAX, and the one in Las Vegas on the West side of I-15 across from the Strip. Both times I was told that these were the best burgers on the planet.

My opinion, which is just that, was that they were serviceable, nothing more. Or, to quote Dom DeLuise in "History of the World Part One", Nice. Not thrilling, but nice.

I'm a midwest boy, so it was Bob's Big Boy growing up, and I think there is nothing better than a Romanburger from a Mr. Hero in the Cleveland, Ohio area.

I guess it's where you're from. But I will echo the sentiments of those who are fans of "Fatburger". Those are pretty darn good.

West coast has In-n-Out...East Coast has Five Guys. I always make it point to grab a double double when on the west coast but they don't hold a candle to Five Guys!

there's a Five Guys DO in the works for North Jersey...

I vote a big THUMBS UP for In-N-Out. Every one I've been to have been great for a fast food restaurant. Fast food being the qualification. The one on I-15 is awesome & I go there every chance I get.

I've tried Sonic which was touted as being as good & found the food to be very bad, borderline inedible.

So would one of you 5 Guys fans explain why they always crush the bun when they wrap the burgers (or do they just not like me)?

Tommy Burger just opened in Las Vegas. Can't wait to get my hands on LA's original chili burgers. I wish In-N-Out had chili too.
