I did try Blue Bunny ice cream (a restaurant nearby replaced "Blue Bell" with it because of the listeria situation). I had never heard of it, and thought it was a "Blue Bell" knockoff. It tasted like a knockoff to me - I wasn't a fan. But I was surprised to read that it's the 3rd largest ice cream manufacturer in the USA. |
I find it concerning that Haagen-Dazs brands their product as a premium ice cream but one of the first ingredients on the label is skim milk. Skim milk doesn't have nearly enough butterfat content to produce a rich and creamy consistency. The water content in skim milk will produce an icy texture. When I make ice cream myself I use a combination of heavy cream and half& half with the heavy cream being the higher proportion. I just don't see the point in paying a high price for a product that uses subpar ingredients.
