Not that they're all that hard to pry out of the shell, but when they're already shelled, it can be dangerous. Too easy to eat a whole pound in one sitting.

Like macadamias, I like them by themselves. They don't belong in mixed nuts.

Salt and pepper ones at Costco should be sold by prescription only. They are narcotic level addictive.

Funny, I seem to remember a cartoon character (possibly Daffy Duck?) doing it in a messy, spit-full way which is the only was I can seem to read the title.

I have always resisted the temptation to buy those when I pass them at Costco. I'm afraid of what a pound of them in about 15 minutes would do to my digestive system. At least shells slow me down.

Hah yes I always avoid buying pre-shelled pistachios. I think I would die from the inevitable pistachio overdose.

My mom, to this day, buys me a 5lb bag each year for Christmas It usually lasts into January

My favorites were the Iranian nuts and of those, the Shah of Iran, were the largest and tastiest. Can't get those any longer Well I did get some, in a department store in Paris years ago

I like themtoo much as well...particularly sprinkled on baklava and künefe. However, the pistachio-based baklava? Can't do it.

I just tasted some Iranian ones (with salt and lemon) and they were really good. They seemed bigger than the Whole Foods/Tjs ones I usually get.

What's up with the ones that are just barely open? I practically break my fingernails trying to get at that yummy nut inside.

They look like certain Paleozoic brachiopods, by the way.

Oh ****, I love me some pistachios. I've tailed off on them recently, but have been known to kill a 1/2 lb. bag of them in one evening. There is something very endearing about prying them open and popping one into your mouth.
