I'll have to have one McRib during the promotion (extra onions, no pickles) but I'd prefer to not get the flu at all this season.

If getting punched in the stomach was available for a promotional rate, would you do it? Similarly, finding McRib sandwiches on a promotion makes them no more attractive to me than if they cost $50 each. I had one McRib in my life. That was more than sufficient.

Agree. Had one on a business trip a long time ago. Nasty.

What do you think this is, Burger King? You can't have it your way!

Sure you can. McDonald's gave up on the "no microwaves" thing about 20 years ago. I was managing a McDonald's when we got our first microwave. Before that you'd just have to wait for the sandwich was made fresh (the McRib's were grilled and then put in a bain-marie pot filled with barbecue sauce.

What made me laugh was that the employees were not allowed to call it a microwave -- it was known as a "Q-ing" oven. Good times (actually, they were in a lot of ways -- too bad I really couldn't make a real well-paying career out of it).

After McRib season, I'd always end up with a gallon or two of the barbecue sauce.

They only sell them during the promotion. And to each their own.

Why would they be attractive were they to cost $50 each?

They wouldn't be. I'd find them inedible at any price.

WIRunner Oct 23, 2011 12:41 am

I definitely would expect extra pickles and a crustier bun. And they had better comp my drink and fries.

The joys of Fall.

I'll have to make a run to McD's, if I remember how to get there.

Just get on a highway and take the next exit.

Right.

I remember when I was a kid and we had to drive 25 miles to get a McDonald's Happy Meal. Now there's 4-5 McDonald's between my childhood home and that McDonald's we went to (which I ended up managing 15 years later). Out of all the McDonald's out there, that one was one of the first 1000 in the world.

Today I'm about 3 minutes from my local one -- we're in a town of about 5000 people and we have a McDonald's, Burger King, Culvers, Jimmy John's, Subway, and Arby's all within a minute or two of the others.

ewrfox Oct 23, 2011 2:34 pm

Went in and got the MCRib.. It was loaded with onions and tasted different than the last time.. I think it was lacking the sauce... Will have to get it again, maybe at a different McDonalds.

im-headed-west Oct 23, 2011 3:21 pm

Just pounded down 2 .... nasty but good !

Much less sauce and lot more onions! When McRibs first came out in the 80s it was loaded with bbq sauce -- I remember seeing them take it out of the pan dripping in bbq sauce -- these days, its prob just a smattering on the rib. If you ask me, I would pay $1 more for double the rib (which is getting softer/less meat tasting every time they bring it out)!

My wife and I split one for lunch today. I swear the patty is smaller than I remember it.

Split one? That's impressive. I could eat 4 of those things (though I actually don't care for them honestly).

I could, too. I just wanted to see if I still liked them like I used to. I had another sandwich (a quarter pounder), although I had them hold the cheese.

im-headed-west Oct 24, 2011 12:20 pm

3 patties stacked on one sandwich !

:p <--- my mouth watering

The McRib, the elusive sandwich that has inspired a cult-like following, is back.
...
The sandwich, which is dressed with onions, pickle slices and barbecue sauce, was introduced nationally in 1982. With 500 calories and 26 grams of fat, it's slightly trimmer than the Big Mac, which has 540 calories and 29 grams of fat. And just like the Big Mac, the McRib has become a popular McDonald's offering.

There are Facebook groups like "Bring Back the McRib!!!" There are Twitter tags, where posts range from "Lucky me, the McRib is back" to "If you eat McRibs, you need to re-evaluate what it is you actually want in life." Last year, the guy who won McDonald's $1 million Monopoly grand prize was ordering — you guessed it — a McRib. Earlier this month, former Playmate Jenny McCarthy contacted the McRib Locator website for help finding a McRib in southern California: She got one in Fountain Valley.

The website's creator, Alan Klein, said he suspected something was up when traffic exploded from about 150 hits a day to about 4,000 in the past week or so, as more fans reported sightings. People are sending him photos of their McRib variations: the McRib with lettuce and tomato, the McRib with bacon, three McRibs stacked on top of each other.

MSNBC had an article on it as well.

Best quote:

And how can it be called a McRib if it doesn't have any bones? Said Fearon: "That gives it this quirky sense of humor.".

CMK10 Oct 25, 2011 3:51 pm

It's odd, we got them here in Durham earlier than everyone else it seems. I had one on October 11th.

This is a guilty pleasure that's more enjoyable than In 'n Out.

SRQ Guy Oct 26, 2011 8:32 am

McRib = AWESOME. That is all. :)

jiggs Oct 26, 2011 8:44 am

too bad that the McRib and Shamrock shakes weren't available at the same time...but both items are the only thing that gets me to McD's, so maybe dividing them is helping them...

enviroian Oct 26, 2011 9:44 am

Would really like to see these being made in a plant somewhere.

So far had only one McRib.. I think I'll get the value meal plus $1 more for the extra McRib..

WIRunner Oct 26, 2011 10:21 am

so since april i have given up fast food (aside from extreme circumstances). Had that two mcrib special (where I it works out to be exactly $6 with tax). Few hours later I had a stomach ache like i haven't had in years. I'll be avoiding two mcribs at once for the foreseable futrue.

Now, If I could have a McRib with a side of Wendy's fries, and a fresh A&W rootbeer....

ewrfox Oct 27, 2011 12:40 pm

If I don't go out to dinner tonight, I will get the 2 McRib Special..

im-headed-west Oct 28, 2011 6:14 am

I had 2 for dinner yesterday .. woke up with a "rumbling"

The rumbling means it's working. :D

pseudoswede Oct 29, 2011 5:52 pm

I had two for lunch today. First time in a year (or two). I don't need to have it again for another year (or two).

ewrfox Oct 31, 2011 4:08 pm

Got two today. It was loaded with sauce and the right amount of onions. Not only was it delicious I got two monopoly game pieces on my cup which led to a free redbox rental.
