I haven't been to a Mickey D's in a long time. Had my very first McRib today and I'm sorry to say that it was just OK. I think I started getting all excited about all the hype in this thread and my expectations were unrealistic.

Now those fries, on the other hand.......yummmeeeee! :D

Have a second one. You'll soon understand.
Just breathe normally. It won't hurt you much. Just relax.......

Just pounded down two.

Yummmmm !

Not even the miracle of Transubstantiation could convert a McRib into a menu item of more than vague and remote appeal to a tribe of nomads wandering long in the wilderness without any food.

RichMSN Oct 31, 2010 11:15 am

I used to run a McDonald's in a past life. We'd do the McRibs every year back then (late 80s to early 90s) for about 2 months.

Back then, we'd grill up the pork patties and then drain the grease and submerge them in a marinator (a pan submerged in hot water) filled with BBQ sauce that came in gallon jugs.

To make a McRib, you toasted a bun, put onions and 2 pickles on the bun, and then took a pair of tongs and fished out a rib patty from the BBQ sauce. The key was getting just the right amount of sauce on the sandwich.

Those things took forever to make, were messy, and I sureashell ate my share when they were around. Best part was the end of the selling period when we had gallons of that sauce around. I took more than one gallon of that sauce home.

Sweet Willie Oct 31, 2010 11:18 am

had a buddy a couple decades ago surprised me with one when he flew into the US from Germany, it was a delicious surprise and my reward for picking him up at the airport.

Plato90s Oct 31, 2010 11:18 am

It's in Boston.

Just had one today.

Don't see what's so special.

I am well on my way to Silver Rib Status. I'm contemplating a Burger Run. Couple of quick turns I guess.

FlyinHawaiian Nov 1, 2010 7:48 am

Ok, I broke down and went the the McD's by my house and had my first McRib since 1987. It was pretty darn good for fast food, but then again, I eat Spam.

There was a good amount of sauce on mine; more than I was expecting, but not so much that the bun was sopping wet. I still was happy I got extra napkins. I have to ask; is the BBQ sauce the same as the McNugget dipping sauce?

No, it's completely different.

Well, this thread has made me break down and go to McDonald's for the first time in years. Quite enjoyed the McRib. I knew I would as I liked them a lot back in the day. Had an order of fries as well, not bad but nowhere near as good as some local places here in COS. Might go back today and get a couple of McRib's to eat at work. :p

lo2e Nov 1, 2010 12:38 pm

Did the old McRibs always have onions and pickles? I don't seem to remember those extras being on there, but then again, it's been about 15 to 20 years since I'd had one.

I didn't care for it having onions and pickles, but I thought it was pretty tasty.

ewrfox Nov 2, 2010 2:46 pm

Downed my 3rd one today… So much better than the 2nd.. This one was loaded on the sauce, that I ate the Ribwich by itself..

I seem to recall that initially when they were introduced, they did NOT have onions and pickles. But during a subsequent 're-issue', they WERE served with onions and pickes. And I guess it just stuck.

This thread makes me want to go get one right now, dammit! :D

Yes! The build of the sandwich hasn't changed since it was introduced.

bubb1 Nov 2, 2010 3:18 pm

Just had one and it is exactly as I remember it...You can (almost) always count on McDonalds for consistency :D

notsosmart Nov 2, 2010 3:33 pm

Had two McRibs at 11pm in Montgomery County, Maryland the night after the Sanity Rally.

They helped soak up all the beer still sloshing around in me guts.

Mmmmmmm... pig snouts...

Not those "healthy" baked ones.

McRib is at the McDonald's DTW airport. Had one on Friday night. :)

And they've made it to Nashville as of Monday. Yay.

People will eat considerably more than 500 calories in a meal and it's OK, but put it in the form of a sandwich sold by McDonald's and it's evil incarnate. Completely irrational.

Got the results of a blood test which included cholesterol readings last week- 126 total & 56 LDL. I celebrated with a double McRib (my own creation of two patties with 1 bun). ^

Only 6 weeks? :td: :D

It's $2.99 here in New York. Does that conform with everyone else's price point?

Sandwich -- $1.99
Meal -- $3.99

WIRunner Nov 3, 2010 12:03 pm

the clerk botched a value meal for me.
Here the meal is $4.49
a second sandwich is $1.00
sandwich alone is $2.79

anonplz Nov 3, 2010 12:09 pm

Even though it seems $2.99 is a higher price point, it's cheap relative to Big Macs and Fromage Royale's, which go from $4-5 a sandwich here.

whlinder Nov 3, 2010 1:16 pm

Pretty sure it was $2.79 in the VA suburbs of DC.

CMK10 Nov 6, 2010 12:02 pm

Already had two. Good value here in Durham too, a mere $4.89 for the meal. Why does it come with pickles though?

ewrfox Nov 6, 2010 5:02 pm

At JFK T4 the Mcrib is $3.49 for the sandwich And $6.99 for the meal.

Ribwich YUMMY

Dugernaut Nov 6, 2010 5:15 pm

OK, I tried one and I hope I never get invited to share a meal with any of you that ^ the McRib. One bite and I tossed it. It was perhaps the most vile piece of "food" I've ever tasted, and I've eaten some interesting things over the years.

A gelatinous, vaguely really bad hot dog taste covered in a mixture of synthetic jam with ketchup. At least the pickes appeared natural.

Never again.

Soylent Beige came to mind.

UUUUUCKKKKK

Why does Chik Fil A put pickles on their chicken sandwich?
Why do grits exist?

There are some questions you don't just ask.

You forgot to mention that it was pressed into the shape of ribs with fake grill marks.
What ever it was you ate sounds delish!

Only the coffee, please

That is all I'll order. Even my dear daughter won't touch the McRib. MD puts sugar in their meat. Gross!

Do you honestly believe they add sugar to the meat? Care to offer one bit of proof of this?

I was told by a registered dietitian.

So I guess by eating fast food, your waistline does not expand? Sugar is placed in so many foods these days to make them taste good. No, I have no proof MD puts sugar in their burgers, but I believe the RDs at the Cleveland Clinic are looking out for me.

You know why Papa Johns pizza is so good? Their sauce is loaded with sugar. I am friends with a store manager. Trust me, I used to love their pizza.

I have changed my ways. I was a major diabetic on insulin for 18 years. Today I am thinner, healthier, and not on meds at all. No, I didn't have bariatric surgery. I did it through diet and working out at a gym.
