Slightly OT but I was at a BBQ joint for lunch yesterday and was really excited to see they had Shiner Ruby Red Grapefruit available. I hadn't seen it in Durham before ^

I've seen it in a few places around Chicago recently. Can you give me some inkling of what it's like/comparable to? I've had Steigl Grapefruit Radler and don't love it...it's still a bit too German tasting for me. The local brewpub was serving an IPA+grapefruit cocktail (shandy?) that was pretty tasty, which surprised me since I don't typically like IPAs.

I like it. It's somewhat light (4.1% ABV) and the fruit isn't overwhelming, just a pleasant accompaniment. Kind of like a Hefe with an Orange slice in it I'd say. Not hoppy like an IPA though.

A local microbrew, Alley Kat, has a really nice, light Klsch style beer called Scona Gold that has become a new fave. Good local brewery with a good local beer. ^

I was fortunate enough to be in Vermont a month ago and got a couple of cases of Heady Topper.

I'm pretty sure I'm ruined now. Thanks alot, HT.

Double Trouble doesn't even taste right now. Need some Zombie Dust to see if it's really true.. that I'm totally ruined.

Tried Schofferhofer Grapefruit Weizen Mix at the Brew at the Zoo last week and was very impressed:

It's not available locally yet, but I was told by my local craft beer seller that it's on the way.

I'll keep a lookout for it. Typically, I'm not a fan of citrus in wheat bears, but I am a fan of grapefruits, so the idea of grapefruit + beer sounds intriguing. Bought the Redbird yesterday and it was OK, but nothing special. A little too German malty for my tastes.

Ick. I would say that it tastes like a$$, but then someone would ask me how I know what a$$ tastes like. Let's just say that I'm not a fan. Glad you like it though. Hopefully they'll import it all out of Texas.

Unlike the wine section the beer cooler isn't segregated by country.
