upgradeable fares to HI?
id like to attempt to upgrade my friends to HI as their wedding gift.
they, nor I, have status on DL, but i have the miles.
they are on L and Q fares if im not mistaken.
can i upgarde on those fares?
if i can, is it worth it? theyre flying a 763 atl-lax-ogg which looks like lunch and dinner flights and then a 763 ogg-lax-atl which seem to be a redeye and breakfast flight.
and again if so, will they get CRC access at any point on an upgraded HI trip?
thanks for any help!

I thought the rules were different for Hawaii. I believe that K/Q/H/M/B/Y are all upgadeable with miles if you're going to Hawaii. I'd call SMS to confirm.

Using miles, only Y, B, M fares can be upgraded, regardless of status. No complimentary Medallion upgrades to Hawaii.

Rules to Hawaii are different, but it's not stated on the website (nor is the Y/B/M requirement for all other mileage upgrades stated).

GA said L/U/T fares were not eligible for paid upgrades.

The Hawaii upgrade awards are:
-D410 award - 7,500 miles - Y fare class
-D510 award - 15,000 miles - B, M, H, Q or K fare class
delta.com just says:
Delta Upgrade Awards Between the continental U.S., Alaska, Canada AND Hawaii
-From Full Coach Fare 7,500
-From Select Fares1 15,000
Check with Delta for applicable fares.
Maybe an email campaign is in order to SkyMiles to include the applicable fare classes and/or award codes on delta.com?

But what this all comes down to is supply and demand. EVERYONE wants to upgrade those Hawaii flights from every fare. There simply is not enough seats to match that kind of demand.

It's not the passengers' fault that Delta gives away so many miles. @:-)
