Unrelated to your post but after nearly 4 months away, welcome back! :) I can say I've missed your input at times as I've said to other members I communicate with from the DL Forum outside of FT "I wonder where Widgets is.... he would know this one"

One of the perceived benefits of Buddy Passes was the possibility of D1. Now, with the already publicized changes, a Buddy Pass rider will not be allowed in D1 unless accompanied by and on the same PNR as the sponsor. Therefore, someone using a Buddy Pass without being on the same PNR as their sponsor is relegated to coach on a standby basis. It certainly seems to me that it makes more sense to purchase a ticket from a ULCC and know that you have seats and don't have to worry about getting stranded. You can buy a RT JFK-EUR for under $400, probably less than a Buddy Pass AND you have seats and a known schedule.

IMO, this and other changes will drastically reduce the number of Buddy Passes and the abuse that was taking place. I think that DL has taken many needed steps toward reducing abuse

Welcome back Widgets

Or somebody else on the sponsor's pass list.

Buddy pass fares don’t depend on the sponsoring employee’s status. Standby priority is based on the sponsoring employee’s hire date. Pick whoever was hired first. I don’t know that the amount that buddy passes cost is changing. I only know that the way that payment is collected is changing in order to make ticketing changes at the airport much faster.

I appreciate your insight! Thank you!

And that change has not yet taken effect, though it was announced several years ago. (People on buddy passes can still get D1 traveling alone.)
